i can't explain i just feel a lot more free and elegant on a board, i may not necessarily look it but i feel it........ i can honestly say i will never ski again in my life.....

I still reckon it's got to hurt like hell when a boarder dose a face plant into the piste or even when they go straight down on there knees, ouch!
I'm not that good a skier yet but when I fall (which I do quite often) at least we as skiers usualy fall sideways.
That must be why the borders have all this body armour and wrist gaurds?
Hmm.... I can see the benefits in both as I swing both ways boarding is perfect in deep powder, I remeber a few years ago the missus was teaching a group of 16 kids aged from 5 to 12!!! (not going to mention the company she used to work for but you can guess in borovets) so I helped her get the kids up the gondala, funny but scary at the same time when they all tryed get into the same cabin got to the top perfect conditions and where the plows had been up during the night the edges ...

Last few years I have been on the 2 planks as off piste has not been great hopefully from local reports snow is due in the next couple days we will have to wait and see
Can't be bothered getting into the arguments - but as a snowboarder who also skis, and who loves both, I'll try and explain the appeal to you (Steve) in terms that might make sense to you. Imagine the difference between a road bike and a mountain bike, or maybe even road bike and a bmx. That's kind of how I see the two. If I'm looking to cover distance and stick to pistes then skis work better. However - if I just want to have fun and mess around or try and do tricks then I can have loads ...

Especially if there's a few of us.
Plus the fact that it's more difficult to get the hang of a board makes it more rewarding. And as for graceful? Boarders win every time here! Carving a board well is a beautiful thing!
Point taken Matt, it did need explaining to me... but even after your well pointed argument, i still cannot see the attraction. I find i can go anywhere and more than a boarder, piste is just a means of me getting to where i want to ski... I will admit to admiring a boarder off-piste, who really rips, especially when its deep and steep, but i have greater admiration for a skier in the same conditions, the control, and the ease of descent, all the work going on under the snow... So many ...

So many boarders have come back from the darkside to all-mountain or park twintips, finding they have many more options for tricks, tracks, trips etc...
I am not a fan, and never will be, it is an unnatural action and is basically wrong... Road bike to mtb ? at least your still facing forward and the wheels turn
Yeah, but you get the idea. Maybe mountain bike to bmx is a better analogy. I doubt anyone would argue that a snowboard is a better way to get down a mountain - if you define "better" as more efficient/faster/more stable. However if that's your definition than an even better way is not to go up there in the first place!
The original post was not "which is better" or "would YOU have more on skis/board" but "who has more fun?". You mention falling a lot as a bad thing, but for me and my mates ...

The original post was not "which is better" or "would YOU have more on skis/board" but "who has more fun?". You mention falling a lot as a bad thing, but for me and my mates falling over a lot is definitely NOT the opposite of having fun. If you don't understand that - then I can see why you think snowboarding is odd, and you'll probably never be a snowboarder. The funniest times are when everyone falls.
But if we look back up this thread - there are 3 people who both board and ski - who are pretty much the people qualified to answer this. All 3 (possibly:- Sofia Nick isn't too clear, but is at worst 50/50)... say that they have more fun on their board. So I think that's a fairly strong indication of who has more fun!
