I love this analogy, `freedom of boarding'.... as they strip off their wrist guards, back protector armour, hip and coccyx protector, elbow pads, helmet, long mitts etc etc etc.... I must admit to wearing a helmet now (after 30 odd years), got fed up with clipping tree branches but can take it off in a second, as with my jacket...
I wear all the protection for riding DH on a mountainbike, full face helmet, body armour, knee pads, neck brace, for self preservation, but im doing 30mph ...

I'm another that does both. Boarding has the cool factor, skiing more practical. Which one I does depends who I'm out with, but either way, as long as there's snow I'll have a fantastic time
I'd just like to point out that it was Jon who posted the question, he enjoys a good debate.
I see from BBs facebook page that Bobby has been doing boarding lessons this week, could be temped to give it a go on Christmas day just to say i've tried it. N
I think the wearing of “protection” is academic and doesn’t detract from the fun. I used to motorbike and always wore a helmet. I have parachuted and of course took the precaution of a parachute. I have scuba dived, with all the gear, and last year paraglided from 6500feet. Despite the protection, I had great fun every time. So when I snowboard, I have the helmet and some padding, and still manage to enjoy it!
I ski and board, if conditions are hard and icy its two sticks, if its freshies then its one stick and you simply cant beat the feeling of riding fresh pow on a board.....
What do i have more fun on? well thats easy
All skiers should man up and give it a go and only then should you be able to comment on this thread
i ski... and i board. happy to tackle any run in a resort on either. but i still smile more when im on the board.. and the boots.... mmm and no poles to drop. but why the need for argument over two.. what really gets on my nerves are idiots who stop by the lip of the slope when it gets ever so slightly steeper.. btw will be 1st time in Boro in Jan... have we made the right decsion.. is there any good stuff there... it looks a bit tame on the piste map...
