In Samokov the Chicken House ( Madorova ), and The Old Bulgarian House (Dont know its name in Bulgarian ) We have been to them and they are both good.John, Cheryl and James

Try "Elite" across the Yastrebets Gondola, for authentic Bulagarian food...they cook meat on a thei fireplace...their chicken fillet was super tasty...if you are more adventurous go for strong taste..try their veal cheeks and tripe....you wont be dissapointed!!re: Local Restaurants
Went to the Old House in Samokov tonight and the food was amazing. Even the chef in the group thought so, and that's not an easy thing to come by. There were four of us and we shared eight starters rather than having main courses. Portions are HUGE. We also had desserts and drinks and the bill came to 52 Lev ( GBP 20 ). Result ! Graham,Just arrived back here for the summer and went to find Dave - see now that he's closed up. His mobile number is also out of action. Where is he now?

These were the suggestions made by the English owner of the apartment where we stay in Samokov.
"we have 5 very good restaurants within walking distance of the house which are very reasonably priced, about half what you would pay in Borovets.The Old house, The Target, Madarova, Kymakanovata and the Kokoshkovo. There are many others in the town and also the K bar run by Kenny which is a favourite with the English people living here" We never made it to the K bar but intend to next year but ...

I had to check the bill each time as I could not believe it, it is such good value and all home cooked local dishes. We also went to the White House and had eat there before. We also had a slap up dinner in Bobby's Bar in Borovets and my friend claims to have eaten breakfast there each day

Paul - the chinese closed early Jan - ie: before the first post about the chinese was written. Dave got married in April and we don't really seem him now. The restaurant has become Pikant again (like it was before Dave had it for the year) - different person managing it but food excellent - we had some chips that were't great (the only thing out of everything we ordered) and the owner gave us fresh trout on the house instead which was beautiful...
