I'm just back from Borovets and the prices quoted in that article are definitely not correct. A full meal including starter, main, dessert and drinks can be had for no more than 30lev a head in many restaurants. I wasn't drinking rakia but pints of beer could be had for about 2-3lev. imported spirits were a bit more pricey but there were plenty of local spirits at very reasonable prices.

I remember in 99 I came first tiume to Borovez the beer was between 1,20 and 1,50 lev. Now it is 2,50 to 3,00 lev. A pizza cost 4 to 5 lev now is around 8 to 14 lev.
In this time if you have luck, you can talk and drink with the stuff at service table in the kitchen after dinner.
And the problem is the prices in Bulgaria increase of course but nowhere as in the mainresorts and parts of Sofia they increase for 100 % may be 20 % but not more. Best to see what I want to say is, and everyone ...

Best to see what I want to say is, and everyone of you can try out, go to the Rila Hotel main entrace if you came in left side is a store you drinks and food and anything you need. A beer is nearly the same as on the bar, so now walk down the way to the congress halls and ski store and you will reach another store on the side entrace, now look the prices where you walk 50 m but in different worlds and now walk 500 m down to the old part of Borovez and look at the small store by the bus station called Jimmy's what is the same beer...

Not been here before but looking forward to it.But the only reason i have bothered with borovets is because its cheap...its as simple as that.If they price everything up they will lose so many ppl its a shame really but thats why many ppl that i know who go their or have been only go for the cheepness.

Well I went to Sunny Beach in Aug06 and beer was ave 2.50lev.
Summer07 Bansko beer was ave 1.50 Lev and thats in the Main square, the cheapest beer was 1lev for Zagorka - cannot remember the bar but it was te day it rained heavy in Aug07 we sat in there all day long lol at people trying to pass the flood.

Compare that to the UK a round of 4 beers in a S.E. Pub is best part of £15. While in Bansko for that sort of money you could have 30 pints in a pub enough for 2 very thirsty people or ...

Either way for a week in Bansko beer money shouldnt be more than £40 at the very most that being 25pints a day! . Then look at food - I always go for the hot plate with meat & potato Seche fantastic value and so good, also Kebabs are very good (and so big) and the Kavarnas. Also love the salads.

Great place - will be out there towards the end of the winter season this year and again in the summer for the Jazz Festival - what a gem of a place this really is.

the point is that the tourists ( and only the tourists ) make the fast developing prices. as long as we are willing to pay everything easily and more and more each time, the prices will definitly grow up that speed. i agree with sune -walk a few metres and buy your beer in little shops or have your dinner in a restaurant off the slope or a few metres from the very centre. we know this will work. we have personally experienced it in summer when they had to withdraw their imaginative prices as ...

Very true, I much prefer to go to very old/traditional Mehanas with open fire and good food.

Have you tried Peasants chicken Heats & Livers?? Thats a bucket load of food tasty and filling.

re: Look what you made in the last 10 years

think the way forward here is to go to the bars that sell it cheap, We are going to bansko because the food and drink are cheap, if they put it up in a big way sorry but we wont go and will choice france, austria ect they need to be careful otherwise they will stop people going.
