Long before the creation of Super Borovets, prices in Bulgaria's oldest winter resort were reaching amazing heights, Trud daily said.
A lunch or a dinner for one at an average restaurant in Borovets, with the necessary extras included, could go over 100 leva.
A regular salad is about 10 leva. A small, 50ml, rakia starts at 3 leva and reaches 11,40 leva for a brand rakia. Therefore if a person had only 2 large, 100ml, rakias, he would have to pay 45,60 leva, Trud daily estimated. The price of a slice of bread was 0,49 leva.
To compare, the price of the mature grape brand rakia at some of the most luxurious restaurants in Sofia is about 5-6 leva for a small, 50ml, glass.
According to Trud daily, at other winter resorts, prices were not as high as in Borovets.
At the Rila ski centre of Panichishte, for example, a muscat rakiya would cost only 4 leva for 100ml, Trud daily said.
Okay Trud newspapers are one of the biggest yellowpress paprs in bulgaria, but the prices raise extremly in the last 10 years...
Problem is lots of people go to Borovets because it is cheap. If they raise the prices too high people will go to France, Austria etc. where the facilities are better. They are in danger of shooting themselves in the foot.
I remember in 1994 there were 100 leva to £1 and in 1996 1000 leva to £1.
Beers were about 50 leva.
Back in 2004 3 leva to £1 and a beer cost 80 stodinki
So prices havent changed much until now.
Beers last year were about 3 leva
In Boro back in 1992 the local bottled beer worked out at 11p a bottle, the day we discovered this crazy price we never actualy got ski-ing that day, the rest is just a blur !!
