The lifts are all interconnected make sure you get to the lifts early or you will have a long wait at the bottom with long queues, if you want to avoid queue take the bus to finkenberg, no ques at all, then take the baby lift and under the T bar on the route to Penken, or if you are competent take the 5 down to the mid station, the 100 to the top and you will have a choice of the six routes down, the snow/sun is amazing on the top. Blows bulgaria into next year. Austria is too rich for me ...

Blows bulgaria into next year. Austria is too rich for me this year, what with the euro/gbp. Eat pizza if you aren't Half board. Groustel at lunchtime is really good value at E6 and is about 3000 calories a plate. (it is bacon, potatoe and onions fried in pork fat, delicious artery blocking ski food).....Avoid the king prawns at £20 each. Apres ski, no point asking, mayrhofen has everything from GoGo clubs to Night clubs, the traditional pubs stock the local bier and munich brews - Spaten and Lowenbrau are my favourites, try the local weisbier made with wheat, it is sweet and smooth and deceptively strong. The do dunkel bier, that is hoppy and dark. Schnapps comes in pear, peach and apple, Williams is pear and the more expensive. Soft drinks Speize is unusual and an Austrian favourite, it is actually Fanta and Cola mixed but they now sell it in bottles as Spieze. Visit the supermarket if you are on a tight budget as eating out for 2 cost us £75 last year and we werent extravogant. blew £100 staying out until 2am one night, shorts are a fortune. A bottle of schnapps in your flask will set you back 6euros, topped up under the table.

Wiener Schnitzel and katophel salad are a must with mischel salad that is a breaded veal or pork cutlet with potatoe salad and mixed salad, Goulash mitt Knopfel or Goulash with noodles, is also a must if you do eat out. About 9 euros

Do you want to swap places colin? You made me wish I'd paid an extra £40 for finkenberg (one village higher than mayerhoefen) again....I miss the food.

Well I think I managed to get a pretty good deal... spent ages searching around putting it all together myself but basically got flights, accomodation, lift pass, ski and boot hire all for £500 for 9 days....

If not and booked through Inghams also buy this before you go as they work out to be £180 in resort. You can save £20 this way each.

Ski pass covers all the areas and they are big. We never went out of the one area.
Snow is fantastic and there is a lot of it (so high up)

We found food and drink to be the same as the Uk, but do head for the "scotland yard pub" as they look after the Brits.
Mo's for food is a must and the entertainment is excellent, again with drinks good meal cost worked out to be £25.00 for the two of us.

Lots of supermarkets though so you can stock up and make food to take up the mountains.
The mountain bars are also good but if you go to the more remote ones they do half chickens with bread rolls for £4.50.

I must admit we went when the exchange rate was at it worst £1 - 1.02 euro. I believe this has improved a bit so you should find all this a bit cheaper now.

All in all it's a great place, just remember to hit the cable cars no later than 8.45 am or the queues do clear by 10.30 am if you don't like standing about.

Be aware that it is cold, especially up the mountain, temperature was -8 and can drop to -20 within minutes.
Carry your piste map till you know the area a bit, belive me there is a lot of it

Hope this help
