The food, price and service on the mountain is rubbish...
The consensus of guests returning to the airport have made this the most popular complaint (not really any others, which is good)
What should be worrying is the numbers who have said that it would effect their decision to return to Bansko, especially those with children in ski school, who are committed to use the restaurants at Banderitsa Polyana (top of gondola), some saying that they were paying around 200lv every day for the ...

Hi steve we just got back from bansko and i would hav to agree. we were at the main gondola bit pretty much everyday and the food was really rubbish. We are vegetarian so it limited us but literally all we could eat was chips, pizza or salad! and we found the waiters a bit rude (esp one moody waitress who would rather be texting on her phone than serving customers). All other staff/people we spoke to in Bansko were really very friendly in comparison, it was only in the mountain restaurant ...

Normally Pete you are quite well informed, but obviously in this case you are not, as to who actually runs this site. The issue of mountain facilities will hopefully be raised at the next tourist council meeting here in Bansko.
Quite well informed and positioned to comment. Ulen do not run this site, nor do their decision makers. The best way forward is to convince Tseko that they need to improve the service, not an easy thing to do, especially when his sister in law in running the show in Bansko.
Ulen do not run this site, but there is an allegiance to Balkan (or was) which effectively is the same thing..
Maja is difficult to deal with, but there are other contacts still in Ulen locally who still carry some power in decision making..
Family of 6, mum, dad and the kids... average lunchtime bill of 150lv, plus drinks and snacks through the day, 50lv... exceptional perhaps but it gets the point across...
That's about £12 a head and that's about the same as the majority of places up the Gondola in Boro (ish).
I'm not justifying it as I have a family of 5 to feed and know the costs but it does depend on what they are eating. Presumably kids will order a Pizza and Chips or Burger and Chips with a drink at lunchtime and another drink in the morning and maybe a choc bar or something. That's kind of £12. That's why I pack a pepperami and live off soup (for lunch) as does my partner.

Last year my boys were in school and many of the younger kids in the class were not given enough money for their lunches. My two raely got their change and had to subsidise the others. That was costing me 20lv a day each. I had to moan to their instructor and thankfully this year they were with adults and were able to exercise some budget controls with their lunchtime spending
I think it will be a while before the eat as much as you like lunctime buffet arrives in BG.
Can't comment on Bansko, but our prices were certainly not £12 per head..closer to half. We averaged 15lev (not pound) for lunch - which included some kind of burger, sandwich or pizza, plus chips, with a soft or alcoholic drink and a chocolate bar for 15lev - so less than £7 - a soup and a drink was just 10lev..so in Borovets there are definitely options to eat for less. I think this is what Steve is looking for in Bankso...

We had hardly any ski schools and the only reason we could sustain those prices (based on the high rents) was due to all the support from the BGski forum members - so thank you!
We are closing at the weekend due to no snow or people on the mountain and no idea if we will be able to rent again next year, but will keep you posted.
