Time to finish off my lighthearted look at Borovets. I did enjoy my holiday & I'm not trying to put people off Borovets, I'm just giving a view of the place as I saw it. On reflection I would try not to go during half term week if it could be avoided - in my case I didn't have much choice.

Ski instruction - i had nothing but a positive experience on the slopes. Our instructor was brilliant & did a fantastic job, but he started sounding like a broken record when he kept going on about how little he earned & kept pushing the group to meet up for drinks, go for meals, do other things (at our expense & free for him, of course). In the end I came to the conclusion that he was only interested in getting money out of us. The group tipped him at the end of the week (at least 120 leva as i remember) & he looked VERY disappointed! That summed it up really.

The Hotels & surroundings - one or two buildings looked good (the Alpin) but the hotels had all the grace of giant multi - storey car parks. These were the clearest reminder of communist times, but some of the buildings thrown up in the 1990s look liked they had been thrown up in an episode of changing rooms. Wooden shacks on concrete slabs. Our instructor made us go to "The Eagle's Rock" as it was a new venue. Oh dear. Chipboard, MDF & corrugated plastic seemed to be the essential building materials. When you consider the loving attention paid to building materials in Borovets the prices for food don't seem that great value after all.

All in all Borovets is a great place to ski & should be much improved if the new lifts come in to service for the 2005 season. If you are not bothered about the environment off the slopes & love cheap beer you will get a great value for money holiday.

Hm, chipboard,mdf and corrugatd plastic, materials we dont use of course, without the first two my buisnes would be non existant, and bear in mind that what you spend on a weeks hols is what the instructor earns for THE SEASON, so yes maybe they are all about earning, as a lot of them earn next to f**k all the rest of the year i dont blame them. I am not having a go at you its just that not all countries are england and we have to bear in mind how other people live.
A lot of the 'great time' most people enjoy in Bulgaria is cause the instructors do get involved, i for one prefer that to the 'times up'im off' attitude in a lot of the rest of europe

Ok we do it every time someone has a differnent opinion but overall liked the holiday and posts honest opinion everyone has a go! I have not been to boro but can relate to what JoJo is saying. And why are we getting into oh I gave a much bigger tip than that? Come on guys a bit silly methinks £40 is a good tip when you take into account the average wage it is more than a lot of Bulgarians earn in a week. I am a taxi driver and if someone gives me a £1 tip I am pleased the most I have ever got was £30. You have to remember that people are on a budget and well perhaps it does not sound a lot between the group it is a lot of money for a Bulgarian REMBER THAT.As an after though Jo Jo next time go to Pamps it is much nicer!
