Ok I don't want to put a damper on all your great comments on Boro, But! First time there this passed week just got back on sat. people keep saying the snow was good at the top, where have you skied before ? it was ok but far from good. the snow was even worse on the lower slopes and most of them should have been closed, I couldn't believe they kept them open.
What I paid for a week with my Girl friend was cheap, but some people i met had paid quite a lot enough to go to the states or ...

what made up for going to boro where the friends we made, I know where over the top in the uk on health and saftey. But it does not exsist in Boro!
They say its a place for Beginners, yes if theres some snow . Ive never seen so many accidents before and most of it caused by some instructors in their lust to earn money taking novices into sistuations they should never have been in.
Its not a cheap place people are trying to earn as much dosh as they can from the tourists and when the Euro comes in next year I think unless they replace some of those button lifts with chairs and staff them !!!
and start thinking about offering a bit of customer service and not how can i screw a few more euros out of the tourists, They will start to kill bulgaria off as a ski destination.
I will not be back until it up dates quite a bit, its attraction for most people was cheap skiing , but when you start charing more people want more. talke note guys if you improve then i will come back, but not until and i know a lot of people no have the same opinion
I'd echo the above from pete - 'plenty of snow' should be clarified as 4 short pistes served by drag lifts plus one very very busy learner slope at the top of the gondola. Personally, I require an awful lot more than this when on a ski vacation.
Button lifts are murder but they work in Borovets because they are short and they are not affected by wind. Chair lifts on the top would be closed every second day.
Ok got the Euro date wrong on one web site it did say 1st Jan 2009, but ive looked at a couple more 1st Jan 2012.
About button lifts the ones at the top of the of the gondla that did seem to be open, where long and very fast for beginners. They where not re bashed when they got icy, I only saw anyone monitoring the top on the friday. You need some one who can shut them off when people fall. One of my girlfriends ski group was hit in the head with a button when going to help a girl, who was ...

One of my girlfriends ski group was hit in the head with a button when going to help a girl, who was on the floor after falling. the button was never stopped for her or him. I hate the over the top health and safety here but a little in Bulgaria would be nice. My girlfriend was lucky got a fantastic ski instructor and a great ski group and made lots of friends. But hay Bulgaria has to sit up and take note if you want to make more money from people you have to give them somthing back. I would go again, when they inprove the lift sytem open some more runs and focus more on offering service rather then trying to get money for nothing. Prime example ski depot start of week total msadness lucky if beginners get right size boots or their ski set correct end of the week, tip box out all smiles when you take the stuff back. you only tip for good service, not because you have too! and good service makes you want to tip!!
Get real people ! go ski somewhere else let them get the message when things improve then come back. If all you know is here you don't know any better. go explore see how it is other places some good some bad!
Got loads to say about my fairly poor week in Borovets last week, most of it already said by Pete.
Mat, you say button lifts stay open in Borovets when chairlifts would be closed by wind. Friday last week, 4 out of 6 button lifts closed at the top due to wind and one of the two remaining ones kept breaking down!!
Gondola closed sunday and monday, leaving people only a few icy / slushy slopes on the rila side. Closed again on Friday afternnon leaving beginners and intermediates stranded ...

Overall impression: Poor. Poor ski school organisation, poor lift maintenance and organisation, poor service in the ski depot. Had it with bulgaria, saving to go to the states / canada next year.
