Im new to this board...and have been looking into snowboarding again this new year!! had rubbish snow last year in montecampione was our first time went for a cheap deal and got what we paid for
We're looking now at bansko we've heard good and bad things....was wondering what your thoughts on new year here will be like...i know snow is never a guarantee but how much snow do you think we'll get
I hear New year is the most hectic time of the year in bansko but you'll still find decent runs if you head out early enough and stay till the last each day.
They got a fair amount of cannons so you should be sound unless they have a really mild one up there? as you say its never garunteed but there putting new cannons out there all the time.
Gareth, going skiing/boarding anytime before the end of January, in my opinion, is always going to be a gamble from my experience.
As i'm sure you will already know every winter season is different with some seasons seeing an incredible amount of early snowfall which will ensure a good base for future snow and other seasons there may be absolutely no early snowfall other than from snow cannons.

I went skiing in Japan last season and have booked another ski holiday next season. The place is unvelievable, honestly!
Every day is a powder day and there are no queues for the lifts, the food is great and the people awesome. It does a lot more than europe but it is honestly worth every penny. Some of the best snow and definitely the best powder I have ever had the pleasure of skiing.
Last season in Bansko we did benefit from some early snow, the mid season was poor snowfall wise but the end got a bit of a top up so spits and farts really. You can generally rely on snow on Todorka, the highest skiing in Bansko around Christmas though im bound now to be tempting providence. Its in the hands of the snow gods really, the prediction due to the unusually hot spell this summer is that the winter is going to be harsh. The laying of an artificial base is reliant on ...
Hi Garath.
The laying of an artificial base is reliant on temperture, better if the ground is actually frozen, and this would normally start around the beginning of December. This allows any snow that does fall to lay and add to the coverage. Great new year last year where other resorts in some countries did suffer, dont even think altitude will give you guaranteed snow, i have been in Val`d'isere and the downhill has been cancelled due to poor snow. Unless your going to take Hornsters advice and go to the land of saki, keep your eye on snow reports, forecasts and people on the ground, and take a late offer....

cancelling downhill in Val d'Isere for the premier Neige which is in early December and with 2 glaciers( as a guarrantee -Pissailas and Grande Motte) and with 300km of combine runs with a number-154 and 89 ski lifts from MAx altitude 3450m down to 1550m above sea level IS HARDLY ANYWHERE CLOSE TO COMPARE with funny ugly crowded little Bansko.
