Oh dear, looks like Bulgaria is turning into Blackpool
I Personally love Bulgaria, this is my first post for a while but I now feel compelled to say something, all this talk about invasion, the T shirts etc for Bobbys Bar, Piste in the day, pi**ed at night, I remember the good old days on this Forum when it was just here for advice, rather than appering to be a load of rubbish that seems to promote a load of drunken Brits, If I have haid said Pi**ed a few years ago we would have received a public warning from the Moderators.

I have been visiting Bulgaria especially Pamps many times, i worked in the French Alps for 10 years, but is is always the hosptality and great prices that bring me back to Bulgaria.
In my opinion the resorts are as safe as anywhere else.

Sadly this is a side of skiing that has a hard core history, for many years there has been an element of the skiing fraternity that are not just happy to read a book, knit a sweater or involve themselves with helping old ladies across the street.. Personally i am appalled at their behaviour, time in the stocks perhaps even to good for them, the birch, and a damn good thrashing would be better....
Lighten up Nick, i don't think pissed is even a swear word... Apres-ski has been around ...

Lighten up Nick, i don't think pissed is even a swear word... Apres-ski has been around longer than both of us, people enjoy the laid back attitude of the mountains, drinking is only part, the comradery and the feeling of belonging.. I have been a member of this forum longer than most, it represents a community of individuals who visit Bulgaria, friends are made, relationships formed, and fun is had.. yes, information is available, but it goes a lot further than that

One could say that I have talked about having a drink or two whilst away in the great country that Bulgaria is and as such have just been out in the snow and given myself a damn good flagellating.
Having the apres ski has always been a BIG part of the whole skiing experience for me but I always ski everyday no matter what. I have met LOTS of people some who drink a little or a lot, to compare resorts in Bulgaria to Blackpool is a bit harsh, the liveliest of resorts Boro and this is still ...

I have met LOTS of people some who drink a little or a lot, to compare resorts in Bulgaria to Blackpool is a bit harsh, the liveliest of resorts Boro and this is still nothing like it, if it was I wouldnt go. Yes I go out, yes I have a drink, yes I get drunk but I do so with people who love being there for the skiing and the people whether they drink or not.
There are plenty of differing places to go and eat/drink etc from quiet to lively to satisfy most people. Hence why I took my family in Jan.
As for the word 'pi**ed' lighten up the only reason it was mentioned was because its a play on words with 'piste'. Its a bit of fun for 'some' of the people going out there just building the anticipation.
I like to think that I have given people advise over the years on this board. (I have had people thank me in resort for commenting on here). Yes it probably is primarily for advice but its also for like minded people who love bulgaria to 'chat' to each other and maybe just maybe have a little fun.

Well said Steve,
As one of the people that instigated the first invasion 26th Jan, I would like to inform Nick that this invasion was born out of last years trip, and the great time that was had, new friends made, and skiing and boarding with people on the forum. The invasion came about because of the interest expressed by board members wanting to be part of this and all meet up again, as well as others wanting to be part of it.

I for one was not drunk in the week that I was there, merry certainly, but it is still about the skiing and boarding, the mountains and the people.
The T shirts referred to are nothing to do with Bobbys bar, there T shirts just say "On the Piste". the other T shirts have been commissioned by individuals for a second invasion on the 23rd of Feb, and good look to them all!!
We are planning next years invasion, so if you would like to be part of it Nick just let us know !!!
Finally Nick, Its a forum and as such people should be able to discuss the time they have had, and any subject that they like. The moderators do a great job of taking out offensive material. By the way are you related to Skatergirl!!

Oh dear Nick, I hope it's not like "Blackpool" as this will be my first visit to Bulgaria! Although they both do have something in common: The letter B @ the start of the word. lol.
I, as a newbie to the discussion board, (joined about a month ago) find the banter, advise, camaraderie excellent & look forward to my first visit to Borovets!
The tshirts are fun & are "tongue in cheek" - a slogan that is as old as the Mayans........It'S funny how assumptions/perceptions can be formed by ...

re: Oh dear, looks like Bulgaria is turning into Blackpool
Nick is welcome to his opinion and although we may not all agree, it's a free country.
I've been going to Boro for 10+ years and am getting old and grey. There are loads of places to eat and drink and rarely when I've been there have I seen the excesses that you see in Blackpool. Most people are like minded and just want to relax. If Bobby's isn't your scene there are lots of other places you can go to. People who have never been to Borovets can now meet in a place where they know there ...

People who have never been to Borovets can now meet in a place where they know there will be a friendly welcome and have a good chance of seeing people they have chatted to on this forum. The T-shirts may help in that sense of belonging/security - both to the forum and in what can be a strange country first time around (especially when you hear about pickpockets, muggings etc etc. which are very rare). Whatever your view, still not like Blackpool.
I am thginking of developing a range of 'kiss me quick' ski helmets - any takers?

I would always have a drink on my holidays (in fact even when i'm not on holiday) so I'm no Quaker. However I do kind of agree with Nick in some respects that at occasionaly it seems almost every post is about drinking antics in Borovets.
In fact, more that that, it seems that the board is almost exclusively Borovets focused and Bansko and Pamps have become marginal. Obviously this is not a problem as such and it's great to see the board busy with people enjoying, or looking forward to, ...

Obviously this is not a problem as such and it's great to see the board busy with people enjoying, or looking forward to, their holidays. However perhaps there might be a case for 3 seperate boards for the 3 main resorts and then one central one for more generic BG ski issues and questions.
re: Oh dear, looks like Bulgaria is turning into Blackpool
Josh,
Nadejda is a project manager & responsible for this site. May be worth you putting your suggestion re. 3 separate boards to her, as she is very helpful.
Borovets is exclusively for "everyone".......
Njoy your skiing/boarding wherever you go!
re: Oh dear, looks like Bulgaria is turning into Blackpool
Fair play Nick you opened a right old can of worms. If this was a wind up it would be great and you have had plenty of Bites! I have been to Borovets 4 times with friends and family. Never seen or heard any trouble and have not seen any drunken shenanigans!
Borovets is nothing like Blackpool. The t's are a bit of light hearted fun and as rightly pointed out comoraderie. Everyone has a right to an opinion. To all those with T's BOOYAKASHA take me to the Pier cake me in beer and sausage and ...
