Due to fly in to Plovdiv on the 11th from Manchester, does anyone have any info about the airport as been searching the net and zilch,, does it have food & drink facility etc for return journey.
Hi
Just returned from there on Sunday. The airport is very very basic and is like stepping back in time with only one collection point for luggage and only one machine to scan the luggage when you return.it is a joke.
There is only one small kiosk for drinks and crisps etc, didn't see any sarnies or hot food so my advise is to take your own!!!
Good luck!!!
Plovdiv airport was never built or designed to be a public airport. It has been converted from a military base for the sole purpose of getting travellers to their destinations quicker. 90 minutes transfer to Pamporovo instead of 4 hours from Sofia.
The minor inconvienience of restricted facilities for me is well worth the sacrifice by saving over 2 1/2 hours extra stuck in a transfer coach.
When you arrive you will be through the airport in minutes, and on departure just make sure ...

i was shocked that the scales where in roman numerals.the planes are not much better and you are frog marched from the plane no buses you have to walk.my bags where mcmxxii=19kg
not sure about frog marched its a short stroll away to the building, and to be honest if you are going ski-ing then you are surely up for a little exercise prior to the slopes, i think the airport is a pleasant change from the hustle and bustle you get in the UK, there is no duty free so best buy that on the way out of the UK, its all very much simpler to the UK system but they are still very security conscious.

There's a coffee bar in departures which is fine whilst you're waiting to board your flight home.
In four years the only delay I've had of more than about 30minutes was when the weather was so bad I was surprised we even made it through to the airport at all!
The queues initially may look large as you arrive, but they are efficient and I've always got through this airport a lot quicker than you do at most airports.
