PP & Phil - La Thuile

Guys,

PP is right - it is a relatively quiet place with a few bars and restaurants. However, I did enjoy the skiing and we chose it because it is a snow-sure high altitude resport.

We stayed at the Planibel - the main residence - and we were more than happy with the accomodation, food and nightly entertainment. But the best thing was that it is literally about 50 metres from the gondola - so no buses or long walks! Plus because of it's 'selectiveness' - the queues are almost non-existent.
2 Hour flight to Turin and then less than 2 hours to LaThuile - if you timed it right you could squeeze in an extra half day on the slopes!
Definitely worth adding to your Tour T Shirts!!

Very Happy

re: PP & Phil - La Thuile

Thanks for the info. I've only skiied for 4 weeks and fancy some long blues / easy reds to practice on. Sometimes at Boro the snow has not been great and I seem to either be on very short easier runs of some that are steep and icy enough to push me into survival mode!
The guy I go with is looking for more advanced skiing. Do you think La Thulie fits the bill for this. Providing there are a few bars and resturants I don't mind it being fairly quiet in the evenings (usually knackered anyway!) ...

I've always had a guide/instructor at Borovets but lessons are short and expensive in Italy it seems. Is it fairly easy to find your way around the slopes with a piste map ? Phil.

re: PP & Phil - La Thuile

Ditto Chris's comments.....I would also go back because the pistes are varied and relatively quiet and, at times, we thought we had the slope to ourselves!
We took 2 hours personal instruction on one of the more challenging reds - ski instructor (Italian ski squad member!) spoke excellent English and (with patience!) brought us on a treat!
One thing I do remember however is that, due to the high altitude, I had never expereinced cold like it - so wrap up big time!

Hello all,

Have to agree with all these comments. Got back from La Thuile last week. Only skied in Boro before. Went with all the family, the skiing was amazing.

Lovely wide runs, Reds and Blues perfect for building my confidence. I've been to Boro 4 times and still love it, but going to La Thuile made me realise that the saying ''if you can ski in bulgaria you can ski anywhere'' is very true!!

Took ski school, got 2 1/2 hrs in a morning for 5 days (mon to fri). Have to say not a patch on the ski schools in Boro. Def didn't learn anything new had a mixed group of 4 british and 3 italians who were of a lower standard so tended to be a ski lesson in italian! Ski instructor was lovely, but very business like did his lesson and went..... but he did act as a good guide.

Stayed at Planibel apartments, very good, really convienient. Some lovely restaurants in the old town and not too expensive compred to other european ski resorts, paid 4 euro for large beer.

One thing i will say is the resort lacked atmosphere, old town lovely but lower nursery slopes outside Planibel lacked bars and restaurants on slopes. We like to have a drink at end of the day while the kids play on the nursery slopes, couldn't do this here.

Great family resort though.

On a final note have to mention the medical care at the trauma centre is excellent!!! Our 10 year old daughter broke her leg, ended up with full leg plaster!! Went with Neilson thanks to Richard, he was brilliant!!
