re: Paying property tax

Thanks guys. Relaxing again now - (deep breaths)! Yes, think they have a receipt for us - will follow up.

Hi Helen, we're all good. Hoping to make it over to Stoikite again in July (unfortunately no more skiing this year). How about you guys?

re: Paying property tax

I'm not out there very often at all and certainly do not have time nor transport to go to Govt offices to go through things like this.

Odd though as I've never once had any invoice of due fees (and thats in 6 years)

re: Paying property tax

I have never had an invoice for the taxes due (in 9 yrs !) - just always gone to the Gov offices in Smolyan to pay and received the slip / receipt stamped to say the bill was paid.

Hopefully someone else may have some info on how you can access the due amounts on line etc....

re: Paying property tax

The taxes vary quite a lot between areas. the resort areas are much higher than local villages. This is probably why Pamporovo has higher taxes than Stoikite. The local tax on a 1 bedroom in Borovets is about 250 leva per year. They don't send warning letters or anything. As far as I know the tax accumulates against the property (with interest added) and it has to be paid if you try to sell the property because the notary needs a document from the local tax office stating the value of the ...

You can't get the document if you haven't paid the outstanding taxes.

You can pay online using Epay.bg but you need to know your bulstat number and it also helps if you know bulgarian (or have someone who can help you). I tried but eventually gave up with it and got a friend in BG to pay it on my behalf.

re: Paying property tax

Also Pamporovo properties are covered by the Chepelare municipality and so taxes are paid in the tax office there. Properties in Stoikite are in the Smolyan municipality and taxes are paid in the tax office in Smolyan.

re: Paying property tax

Booze
We finally managed to pay our property andgarbage tax for our apartment in pamporovo when we were over recently, it took us about 15 minutes once we had all tyhe information.
we had been trying to organise this for about 4 years (we bought the aprtment in 2006!).

Despite the number of years outstanding, the charge was only about £120 per owner (2 of us). So a huge differnce between that my UK council tax. Very Happy

re: Paying property tax

So what information do you need?
Can it be done over the phone?
Why do they not send out invoices?

Where do you pay for it
Cash or credit card?

What was the fine for the non payments from 2006 until now? If none which Im assuming is the case then really why does it matter to pay it? I mean they don't chase it and no penalty and when you come to sell up they then do deduct the due taxes. So no big deal?P

What am I missing?
