I am also surprised that the other tour operators have not looked at Bansko. It is such a superb ski area. As you say only Neilson and Balkan. We will probably go back next year with Neilson and fancy the Strazhite this time.
It's weird isn't it - word obviously has not got around yet - which is good in a way as it means it won't be overcrowded yet! I have not actually looked at the Neilson brochure yet but looking on the Net I see they also go to the Perun so I will have a look at it to compare prices - I note their charges for last year - they were charging less than what I paid with Balkan - I always assumed Balkan would be the cheapest!
Last year with Neilson was particularly good for a couple because they did 2 lift passes for £75. Unfortunately next year it will be £75 each. We will still go with them though.
Wow! That was a good offer What do you think Val - was this a completely 'freak' year or could we hope for great snow again... I wonder if its just the way the seasons are changing generally, I dunno..... Just off to the pub (again!) (I sound like a right alcho don't I) in a mo to bore somebody else at work with my photos - they have been well circulated around! Catch you this 'avo
I think it was an exceptional year. We really had too much snow when we were there. Could have done with more sunshine. I think it has a good record though because it is high. Before I found this board I went onto Neilson's Chat Room and someone reckoned that the snow was never a problem up the mountain as they had a history of cold winters. The worst scenario would be that you couldn't ski all the way down if there was a lack of snow in the town. There seemed to be loads of cannons on the ...

There seemed to be loads of cannons on the ski road though so as long as temperatures are low enough I'm sure they will try and keep it open.
I loved it there and can't wait to go back.
Enjoy your lunchtime
I have to go to Munich tomorrow on business so need to keep a clear head today.
Bansko is 'owned' by Balkan Holidays - in fact Ulen - the lift operator, BH and First Investment Bank - who financed the resport development are all part of the same company.
They own the Pirin, Perun and other hotels as well.
It's not a case of the other operators haven't caught on, BH will not let them in!
There only concession is to allow Neilson in, to give an air of competion.
I'm not complaining though as I think they are doing a first class job
That's really interesting - and I have to be honest - I did wonder! I was talking to someone about the amount of property being built and owned by Balkan and that Balkan Airlines seem to have the monopoly - we laughed that they 'owned' Bansko and now I know it is true! Nice to have someone 'in the know'
I loved it there SOOO much and like you - can't wait to go again! It sounds like they have a good track record there then and as you say - I suppose the ski road could be iffy but with all the cannons - if the temperatures are right - it should be OK as well. I've never felt so in love with a place as I do Bansko.
Oooh - off to Munich eh. How long you away for - will we still hear from you on here? I am just about to leave the office now.
