Lots of posts on here asking for advice on ski packs etc so I thought I would offer up some advice.
Firstly, if you have booked through a travel agency or tour company then they will almost certainly have these packs for sale. They are usually only available if you have booked your holiday through them but in almost every case it will be considerably cheaper if you pre book all your reqirements through them. Leaving it to the last minute or expecting it to be easier and/or cheaper when you arrive in the resort is not advisable as this will not only cost you more but will also probably take up your first morning in just trying to sort it out.
If you have not booked through a tour company and booked a direct flight then you need to sort out where you intend to hire your gear from before you go. Rather than me advising on this (as you will all have different requirements) try using Google for advice as there are plenty of websites that should be able to help you. Also you should consider how you intend to arrange transfer to your destination. Often taxis are the only option from the airport due to the late arrival of most flights and this can prove expensive as well as a bit of a hassle when you are trying to negotiate a price.
If you do travel by taxi then negotiate a price before you get in the taxi and pay the driver as soon as you get in. Otherwise there has been stories of people saying they were quoted 17 levs per person for the journey and on arrival the driver has insisted he said 70 levs per person.
Don't leave it all until the last minute - do it as soon as you can.
Have you any idea how much a taxi to Borovets should cost ? I remember looking in the airport last year and can not recall how much it was, I think 70lv but I am not sure ?
I have reserved skis from interski but I only used a web form, am worried they might not have them, do they usually have excess anyway? And also, I wanted to book ski lessons but they needed a deposit in euros which i didnt have, do you think we will be ok to book them when we are there, we want 2 private lessons?
Hi Nikki,
I can't tell you if that will be OK as I do not know how busy they are, nor do I know when you are going.
Personally I would want to get it sorted before I went but that's up to you. I cannot see why you cannot pay your deposit to them in Euros - it's easy enough for them to convert it so I think they are being a little unhelpful with that.
Have you tried contacting them direct and asking them the same questions?
Pete, I agree that if you require the whole package ie equipment hire, lessons, lift pass then it probably is better to book in advance.
But, if you just require a lift pass are you sure that its best to buy this before you get to the resort? I have found it to be more expensive this way....
Pete, as stated in another post, a lift pass costs 44levs a day for 6 days in March when booked from skiextras.
I'm pretty sure this is no cheaper than buying on the day at Borovets. Do you know the current price at Borovets?
