re: try less famous resorts

We are paying about £50 more for the two of us for next year compared to when we had booked for this year, but it all depends on when you book.

Inghams for example have already got the 2nd edition on line brochure for next year and prices have gone up from first edition, including £20 per ski pack. Thankfully, we booked on first edition

Tried to book Pamps for next Feb - there was a £122 airport supplement per person - it was only £20 supplement this year. As there are 5 of us it makes a big difference.

It's not the tour operators, it's the local businesses. Most of the Hotels in Borovets and Pamporovo are owned by American coporations or Mafia groups in Sofia. The Tour operators are very aware of the Market for Bulgaria and are fighting to keep the rates down.

Think about it, the tour operators are businesses with a brief to make money. Profit from any product comes from the sale of Volume. All the tour ops have made a tidy profit in the past from Bulgaria. Ask yourself who is to gain from the higher rates, not the tour operators as lower volume because of higher prices means a lower bottom line. It's the hoteliers looking at the big european resorts thinking they can charge the same, when in reality they can't. This Forum being proof of that.

The British culture to blame the Tour Operator makes me sick. You get what you pay for, simple as that.

The best thing you can do the next time you go out to Bulgaria is tell the hotelier that you want to return to Bulgaria, but if they continue to raise rates then you'll have to look for an alternative. I predict a huge drop in the popularity of Bulgaria in the next 5 years, not because of infrastucture or quality, but because the local businesses and people are getting far to greedy. Why on earth would the Tour operators want less people to travel.

Open your eyes all of you and stop blaming the people who are fighting you cause.

We tried Thomson and Balkan - both told us the same about the £122 charge - even though the week we want (18th - 25th Feb 2006) isn't the half term week, there is this high charge on the weeks either side of the half term.

Try Inghams - no supplements there, unless it's for underoccupancy. Mind you, depends where you are flying from

re: Price increase or wot!!!!!!!!

we checked prices for the same week Jon & from humberside (east coast) the supplement is only £20 pp so I think Manchester are bumping it up for some reason? However the same hotel, resort, ski pack etc for 2 adults 1 child (age 13) has gone up by approx £220.
We checked other places though & was still cheaper for us due to some discount for the child.

re: Price increase or wot!!!!!!!!

I think you'll find that there is not 1 set half term next year. In Nottingham half term is a week later than this year - 20 - 25 Feb so as in the price hike dates you have stated above.

Easter is really late so the country will not be united in their half term dates and hence about 3 weeks in some brochures carrying the high price.

Obviously on the plus side, if you do have do go half term week then it may not be as busy as it usually is!
