Think I mentioned a couple of moths ago about my 19 year old being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, do you have any tips on protecting his insulin pen and glucose monitor while he is snowboarding.
Maybe a bumbag worn at the front under your jacket plus a hard glasses case? You could also ask your pharmacist what they are shipped in - they might be practical or at least have some ideas
Mentioned the idea of bum bag to 19 year old snowboard mad son. .. . the look on his face was something else. .. so i guess thats out of the question. ..thanks for that though
We have ski jackets with zipped pockets on the arms and chest the pen would fit in something like that Also could you just take spares and keep in hotel in case?
Lots of people carry small back packs to put clothing in water etc - or can't you do that when you board?
Has he got a medic alert disc and insurance that def covers his diabetes - if it is mentioned it may not be covered even if you have been honest as I discovered last year. M and S will cover existing illness
Have a great hol
Hi Glynis . . yes he has got all the insurance and medi dics. .. at the mo he is not happy to have diabetes. .. .we have got spare insulin, glucose testing kit etc etc. . .we just looking for ideas on carrying his stuff around ....the insulin must not freeze and the glucose testing kit has to stay warm....I;m sure after this first trial hol he will be fine but any tips from anyone in the know would be great. . just thought there is bound to be someone on this board who has some experience ...

I just put my pen in my top pocket and forget about it. Angie carries a spare just in case but I leave my monitor in my room. I check my blood sugar before I go out and again when I return. If he doesn't want to carry it, just see Gary in the Snowshack - he can leave it with them and pick it up as and when he needs it.
thanks Pete, he's got to carry his moniter at mo cos he's a bit unstable with his readings so hospital want him to check it very hour or so for first few days of boarding, sure he will be fine.
Hi Julie, my daughter is also diabetic We are staying in the Samokov and have asked through Nielsons if we can have a fridge for her room to store the insulin. We will also take a small cooler bag with a couple of ice packs just incase. As Pete says, pop the pen in a zipped pocket while out or I also wear a small back pack while sking to carry vital things like insulin, camera and hip flask for me

My daughter was diagnosed at 12 and she was 21 on saturday and she is still not happy with diabetes but tries not to let it affect her. Im sure your son will get it under control and have a super time skiing.
