re: Resort reports...

A house for the price of a family saloon, 10 mins from a ski resort, im not jealous!!!. Good luck with it, with all the hours you both put in on the transfers etc it will I am sure be nice to have your own place to go home to. And a garden for Jess, must be better than an apartment.

I bet if we ever meet Mikey in a pub his glass will be half empty, if you know what I mean!!.

Hope to be back to Bansko next season, we loved La Thuile, but we love Bansko too.

Mikey it should be def Pamporovo. I really would love to know what you will say after a day visit to Pamporovo.
God honest truth is I like reading your posts as most of the things you say are true . Just sometimes you use very "strong words" let say.

re: Resort reports...

Few jobs to do today on arrival in SOF and then Done the Night skiing in Borovets.
Briefly I noticed Boro was very quite (empty whole restaurants and bars without a soul.spoke with few shops (not happy and curious why with so much snow there is nobody spending around.
Maybe correcting the prices down will do the trick for a start .lowering the lift pass which I still think is ridiculously expensive for what you get (sorry Bulgaria)is the first priority.

Second is attracting paying clients not pre-paying ones.and the ones with bags full of sandwiches to be eaten at lunch.
Problem is the attracting of lower end clients.
that is vicious circle.
Without a reasonable solution.

Anyway the night skiing was brilliant because the Temps were bearable and very few people so good warming for 3hours on country soil.
Sleeping is in my chalet in private company.Magical scenery this season(masses of snow full moon piece and quite)
Tom is the turn of the whole of the slopes in Boro hoping for the weather to hold for most of the day reasonable.
Direct from the slopes I already decided we will head on towards Pamp where I will rest in my other house (grade listed) in Shiroka Luka just down from Pamp.
Before that 2-3 hours during the journey they will have enough time to make it cosy and warm for our arrival.
Then it is turn on Pamp memory lane.
From where Friday is direct to airport.fly back and a day later fly again into the Alps for part 8 of my winter marathon.
I will definitely make room and for Bansko (decided) on my next trip here in 10ish days.
Then probably it will be the two B's.
As for where I will be staying in Bansko not sure yet but it won't be Kempinski Steve I have to disapoint you.
Appart of the central and useful positioning I am not fussy because driver attached .
Most likely I will staying in my chalet in the region.
Have not visited it for nearly 4 years and not feeling sorry.
The last I came for a day during the WC for men I did not even sleep in B.
I chose I place Sandanski near the Greek border with company before I flew away back West.
One thing about the situation Steve is that I think Bulgaria needs more people like you who decided to settle in here even with families which is huge risk but somebody has to do it and to fill the vacuum created by the massive brain drain which is continuing fast and strong.
Good work Steve!
I am thinking you could have bought this your house after it has been consumed by me in the past and resold before the crisis started.
Hot much of of movement on that front as far as the prices are concerned and I don't think there will be any climb in our generation- thinking we will. Be heading for a double dip any time now.
But still very brave Move of yours.
Play clever the game don't put on the table anything substantial divert into summer as a little breather( on that though there is no resort in the Alpean world which can start make money from summer activity).
All of the places are doing summer stuff just to keep the staff and very little anything to show for.
Bansko is NOT going to be any different.
Some jazz concerts won't make is mega attractive .
Summer in the mountains is dirt cheap anywhere in the Alps. All properly done and still laughable profit at the end.
Basically Ski resort is a ski resort.
In the summer you can throw Bikes, walking sticks, golf , etc.It won't make any real different.
The ladder (in Europe ) is placed so low that there is nothing left at the end.
Unless you are in a signature place with variety of activities(summer skiing, golf, massive Via Ferratas, close to other attractions etc.
Bansko has none of those.

All good points Mikey, but i do not agree with summer potential for mountain resorts. If the Alps are to be given as an example the summer is attracting higher numbers of visitors. Our own experience is that the summer is looking the best this year than it has in any previous year. We are aiming at a fairly specialist group who would normally head for the Alps, but have convinced a number to try BG purely from a financial standpoint...

I will accept that Alpine prices are lower in the summer, but so are Bulgarian... We are not just covering Bansko, but Bulgaria as a whole, and as a whole it has a lot to offer...
Our investment is relative to the expected returns, relatively small initially, lessons any risk, but ongoing we feel there is a business to be had, and to this end we will continue...
Thank you for the good wishes, we are looking forward to being in our new home, in a village, already starting to meet neighbours Very Happy We have no grandiose plans to own an empire, just to simply allow a living to survive, and a future for our daughter here in BG... Anyway, got to get ready, invited out tonight for a traditional kaparma, cooked by good Bulgarian friends, and perhaps a glass or two of rakia Booze
