This will be my first skiing holiday alone and I'm just about to book the Rila for 27th Feb'05. Have read some negative comments about poor standard of food and the presence of prostitutes in the Hotel lobby! Any comment's?re: Rila Hotel - Borovets
Fiona i think as long as there is snow i think you will have a good time i am just back 11pm 2/1/05 from a week in rila the snow was crap in the begining of the week but from wednesday there was plenty wished we had gone this week.re: Rila Hotel - Borovets

Hiya, we stayed in the rila 2 years ago, it was a reallly nice hotel. I know everyone whinges about hotel food but we found it to be fine,there was sso much choice there was always something we liked and we had a couple of fussy eaters in our group so dont worry about that. We had heard about the prostitutes before we went too and had great fun playing spot the prozzy!!!! It really was a hard game though because, yes, there were a few bulgarian women around there but they were all quite ...

It really was a hard game though because, yes, there were a few bulgarian women around there but they were all quite presentable and blended in so no need to worry about it. The lobby bar in the Rila was a really friendly place with huge circular leather seats brilliant for just crashing out on with a hot chocolate.

We got back 2nd Jan from a week at the Rila, the hotel is in a good location and has a comfortable but crowded lobby. The rooms are basic but comfortable, but we had problems with hot water, noise from the lift and having to walk up 8 flights of stairs because there were that many powercuts. We had breakfast once at the hotel and it was a shambles, we tried the gala dinner on new years eve and that was terrible, we ended up going to La bomba for pizza. There are loads of good, cheap places ...

There are loads of good, cheap places to eat, we didn't spend that much time in the hotel. There were some ladies of the night circulating they didn't bother us, but other guests had been approached. If you are a beginner, then you probably will enjoy it, if you have been skiing elsewhere before then it may be a big disappointment. I had read reviews on here before going and had decided to give it a go, like the majority of people on our coach on the way home, we wish we hadn't bothered.

Just back from Bora & all I can tell you is that if someone does not enjoy himself they have only themselves to blame.

Many thanks for all your comments, they are currently being digested. Up to now, I have been on many holiday's on my own. My original choice would have been Austria, but obviously there is no comparison in the price with Bulgaria, ie: £350-£400 cheaper for a 4* Hotel with leisure facilities. However, would you think that Borovets and the 'Rila' would be the place for a single female? and is there such thing as a 'quiet' room at the Rila just in case I did want to get some sleep! ...
