Hi guys,I'm off to the rila on the 15th looking forward to everything borovets can throw at me and just come back from buying all my gear. However not sure what to wear on my feets for getting around as all the boots look a bit dodgy and dont want to be turning up in the pubs in a pair of girly moon boots!! please help me

Same question here?! Don't have a clue what shoes to wear. And yes I do understand i don't have to bring my high heels!!

Down to personnal taste really. hiking boots are good but I wear Sorel Caribous. Most ski shops in the UK sell these ie snow+rock and they are probably the best snow boots you can get. Got mine on ebay from the US.re: Rila on 15th and I have a shoe problem!
So glad it was a boy who posted this one! I am thinking the same. Have settled on my Merrel walking shoes but do you think I will need boots rather than shoes?... so girly!

Marieke,neem schoenen mee met een goede "grip" zool...anders val je zo op je kont!
Ik neem een paar platte laarzen mee en eventueel sportschoenen voor de bars.
Zoals steeds loop ik overdag met een paar 'berg'schoenen (gekocht in Oostenrijk).
transl.: take shoes with a good "grip". sports- and mountainshoes.

I would advise that as long your merrels are higher than your ankles you would be fine with these. You would only need boots if it really dumps down and you're walking in deep snow on untreated paths.I just bought my other half a pair of sorel claremonts for £65.00. They last a life time and are rated to -25degrees. The Sorel Caribous are rated to -40degrees but are more expensive at £75 but once again last a life time.

I wear trainers or normal shoes that have a good tread, most people even with posh walking shoe and boots still slip and slide down the road when its icey, so I wear whats comfortable.
