Samokov ? worth a trip ?

just wondering if getting a taxi into samokov for food and drink is worthwhile. Is it a decent place to do a bit of shopping ?

Simple answer is yes. I can't remember the names of the best places but no doubt Kas or others can help here.

You could also do a search back.

you will normally save the cost of your taxi due to cheap restauarant prices in Samokov.

try

Bonita's - pizza/pasta type place
Target - all types of food - even have a curry that is not bad
The Old House (Starata Kushta) - traditional Bulgarian is an old Bulgarian house
The Hen House (Kokushkova Kushta) - slightly more up market option. Very nice decor and a huge menu. Still reasonable prices for what you get. Probably te best restaurant in Samokov.

Visit the market for shopping has some great bargains and veg is 3 times cheaper than the supermarkets and usually better quality. For beer and wine go to the coca cola warehouse again much cheaper than the supermarket. Restaurants as above . All reasonably priced

Yes it is worthwhile for a change of scenery, restaurants as mentioned above great although had a couple of dodgy meals last time visiting Kokushkova Kushta.
Target overall brill, see TripAdvisor.
There is also Cinema pizza restaurant for a quick informal meal (very cheap).
Opposite Target to the right is a very traditional BG restaurant which i tried last November, called Kaymakay Kushta the food there was excellent. Kas told me about that one, good choice.
The Old house is great too ...

The Old house is great too but you have to book normally. Taxi generally 12 lev there about 18 - 20 lev back, but this is with a taxi firm from Samokov, dont know how much the taxis would cost from the rank in Borovets. (You can get the bus there and taxi back) Two decent supermarkets in the town too, Billa and T-Market.

Old House is a must, great food and drink at a good price, but make sure you book, very busy! Smile

It's even cheaper if you take the bus down. Just 2 lev a person.
Old house is the place to be, visit it 2 days ago and had a great diner.
Even good to visit and between the both big supermarkets Billa and T Market is Schatrata Restaurant.

Or you can walk over the bridge near the Arena Samokov and find the eldest supermarket Evropa.

Good to visit but a bit to walk East-West superb food to absolutly laughing prices, some meters more you will find Kestenite Restaurant and Hotel in ...

Hi Sune,

The restaurant you mentioned, Schatrata? Is that the tapas restaurant opposite the supermarkets? Always wondered what the tapas would be like.

The Old House is a must for traditional Bulgarian food and crazy cheap, Target is good to, haven't tried any others.
