Sat Nav and driving

Have booked to go to Pamporovo 1st week in March. Given the current lack of snow and if its going to be similar in March I might consider hiring a car from Sofia and driving to Pamps and doing a bit of sightseeing of surrounding areas. Is it worth paying extra for sat nav or is it unworkable in the region. Also if snow conditions are good how well is the mountain road maintained or is not adviseable to risk it being inexperienced driving in these conditions with snow chains etc.

Your car should have snow tires and the roads are very well maintained . Infact they are better when they are covered in snow! less holes

Cheers Arron, not wanting to appear ignorant but what are snow tyres like and are they ok for the main road from Sofia.

Like a crude version of a regular tyre, a little more noisy but you may not notice the difference, fine for all roads.

if u r being offered a sat nav by the car hire company ,surely it should work. a friend of mine recently drove from sofia 2 smoylan using sat nav and it worked for him

Snowy Steves' satnav was a uk spec. So the ones in BG will have the bg map software on them.
