Self Catering in Borovets

Our group of 13 had a great time this year in Borovets and want to go back in '05. This time we would like to try self-catering, but there don't seem to be many options for a large group (could be around 18 of us next year). The Malina and Yagoda seem a bit far out. Does anyone know how many places there are at the Alpina Chalets?Any other ideas/info much appreciated.

Ive Just been in the Yagoda Village. I was horrified to find out I was staying there due to the distance to the resort however they do put on a free bus if you can be bothered waiting for it. Alternatively a taxi is only 10 lev which is whet we were paying over new year to get back up the hill to the olymp.Also you get a sauna in your chalet and dont get mithered off anybody which can be seen as a bonus.
Its not that bad!

The Alpin Chalets are listed on this site. They are very nice but only sleep 4. They are planning on building some larger 2 storey ones during the summer.
The main issue with The Alpin is they are in the process of deciding whether or not to let their accommodation to a tour operator for the season and when we stayed there in February I was told it was the Russians and Yugoslavs who were interested.

There are also one or two others on this site but like the rest tend to accommodate a maximum of 6.

PhilFound it!! The Mariela is with Crystal and sleeps 12 so probably no good to you.
I spoke to our friend about the lack of larger self catering accommodation when we were there. Unlike the other European resorts there are no catered chalets or the such like. Maybe a niche in the market for a young entrepeneur

We have stayed in Yagoda last year and Malina this year. We pick this because it is out of town and hence quiet (important for a light sleeper). It tends to suit families and couples, rather than groups who want to go out on the town. I have been told that there is a nice chalet for 13 above the ski store behind the gondela, but I don't know how it was booked, I will see if I can find out.Cheers

Ellie - do you know how many chalets the Alpine has? And whether the new ones will definitely be available?I emailed the hotel, but they haven't replied.

I emailed them this time last year but they didn't come back to me until May when they fixed the new seasons prices. When I spoke to them whilst we were there in February they said they would not be in a position to know what was happening next season until June/July!! Very Bulgarian me thinks.
It seems that the Bristish tour operators this year are getting everyone to book earlier and the Hotels there aren't really up to being rushed. I think there were only 4 Alpin chalets ...
