Single girl going alone

Ladies and gents,

I'm about to book a week's holiday in Borovets, never been to that part of Europe before, am a good snowboarder (I do tricks'n'all), sort of on a budget and finding it hard to convince my posh friends to go to Bulgaria ("eurgh... do they have MTV?" was what they asked) so most probably will go on my own. Is that wise?
Any feedback appreciated :-)

re: Single girl going alone

I would have no hesitation going on my own - I am lone parent with 6 yr old son so now I take him but if I did not have him I would still have gone. It depends how 'brave' you feel I guess. I have travelled to other countries alone and it does not bother me - but some people I know say they would not feel safe - or happy doing so i.e. they would be lonely.....

I go to ski school as once I have dropped my son off at kindergarten I am then effectively 'alone'. I think skiing is a good sport to do 'alone' because even if you travelled in a group you may find yourself at different levels in a ski school and you can't have mega conversation when going down the slopes! I found ski school a good way to make friends who invariably I would then lunch with etc and joined them a couple of times in the evening. I have stayed in touch with some of the people - my ski instructor in BG, a girl from Greece and a lady from Norway!

I would say GO FOR IT!! but it will be interesting to see what other's people's views on this are.

Good luck - whatever you decide.

Cool that's what I wanted to hear thanks!
Not really worried about my safety, but I read the forum and it sounds like a whole lotta families are going out there, is this more a family resort then?

Judith has been to both Borovets and Pamps on her own so I'm sure when she sees your message will be able to offer a sensible opinion.

Make sure you join board school and then you will make friends with like minded people and I'm sure you can meet up of an evening to join the apres fun. Alternatively you could join the functions organised by the reps and instructors - you won't be lonely.

The only thing I would suggest though is that you go for a central hotel that means you don't ...

The only thing I would suggest though is that you go for a central hotel that means you don't need to worry about taxis and thing to get "home" at night.

Hope this helps.

Have fun and enjoy

re: Single girl going alone

I just got home from Borovets this saturday. It's a great resort but not much there for snowboarders unfortunally. Theres too many hills that isn't prepared for us snowboarders, too many flat sections. If you know what a mean. If you like to do tricks on your board don't expect a halfpipe or a snowboard park. Other than that you'll have a great vacation... Oh and you can tell your friends that they do have MTV there!

Good news about MTV, shame about the flat bits on the slopes... What about Bansko or Pamporovo? Been there Kristian?

re: Single girl going alone

I stayed at Rila which is in the center of the resort. Great hotel with all the necessitys. Restaurant, bar, pool, supermarked etc. But I would think that any hotel near the center would have the same facilities. Samakov amoungst others.
