Skatergirl,
No disrespect, but, you did say you wanted your children to improve their technique.
Surely when you 1st meet your instructor he only has to go on what his pupil tells him. (I think we have all probably been in a lesson were some pupils might have exaggerated their ability), so surely you could have excused him taking them down an easier run to check out their ability?

Your children like to 'bomb' down red and black runs, sometimes you have to go back to basic's to improve technique and in my opinion you cant practice your technique on a black run.

This is only my personal opinion and don't want to offend, but 2 instructors tell you the same thing!!

Hilly I appreciate that, which is why when he first took us on the Iglika run I thought he was checking their ability. Thats why I asked were we going up the mountain soon. he said no and we were with a group of "snowploughers!"

Second day when I was ill my hubby went with the kids and was given a new instructor, the same happened but higher up (I have explained all this if you read my (long) post!) The people they'd been put with were slowly snowploughing down a blue run. We have been parallel skiers for 5 years!!!!!! I'd have had no problem with them being taken up a blue run or a red run with people of similiar ability to practise technique. I must also say they have an excellent technique, but as I previously said there is ALWAYS room for improvement. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN. WE/THEY WERE TAKEN WITH PEOPLE WHO HAD SKIED ONCE BEFORE. WE HAVE SKIED EVERY YEAR SINCE 2005!!!!!!! This was our NINTH year!!! Sorry but the instructors were AWFUL. Also other people we spoke to spoke of similar things. One bloke who had skied only once before was taken up to reds and brought down too fast which frightened the hell out of him and resulted in him being too scared to ski for 2 further days until someone from his hotel offered to take him up a gentle blue and bring him down, after which he regained confidence. So, he should have been put in OUR group and we should have been in HIS!!! The mind boggles!
After they left they spent the week on blacks and reds and had a brilliant time on the runs. (Although they feel the blacks in Bulgaria are more like reds everywhere else.) I have been down a steeper red than the black on the far left hand side, although I didn't do it last week as I was so ill)

Steve G The exchange rate was between 2.32 and 2.34 while I was there Smile We were with Borosport.

Jez, I booked late deals (usually book with 15 days to go which gets the best price and avoids late booking fee) to Italy and Rauris (Both were with neilson) £1500 is the most we've paid for a ski holiday for the four of us including equipment and LP's Smile

re: Skatergirl

Oh and Jez. We don't visit bars when away. We prefer to save our cash to pay to go on holiday (We have a ski hol and a summer hol) rather than spend it there and we spend the days skiing and take the kids out sledging at night, so we don't have time for bars anyway! And in all honesty I am far too knackered but I am 50 years old so it takes it out of me!

Thanks for the info sg.

We looked a Rauris but were worried it might have been too small. What did you think?

Where did you go in Italy?

MODS - Sorry to talk about other places on a Bulgaria ski site but we've done loads of like for like comparisons and never found anything that offers the same as we have found in Borovets.

Rauris was pretty small, yes and there is only one black run from the top to the bottom and it is very narrow and not fenced off. But, we had to look at budget and you need to decide whether or not you are prepared to pay more for a larger area or not. Only you can decide! We certainly had fun and there are good long blue and red runs from the very top to the very bottom. The area is lovely and there is a big cheap supermarket also. However the last 2 years have been dearer. In Italy we ...

However the last 2 years have been dearer. In Italy we went to Bardonecchia. Again a small area but 2separate ski areas, and Jefferrau was lovely, Big wide scenic runs. We stayed at the La Betulla. Basic but ok. Again, this year it was way over what we paid, but you have to just keep looking and watching . there are no guarantees! This year we couldn't find cheaper than Bulgaria!
We once did Chamrousse (Chamrousse apartments) in France and nearly returned this yr as we could have gone for £1670. That is beautiful. (It was SC tho but we take our own food and there's a kitchen etc) Crystal ski. You get a lift pass included in the price of the accomodation.

re: Skatergirl

Hi skatergirl You took out the learn to ski package which as you say is cheaper than buying a lift pass and hiring ski equipment. This package is meant to be for first time skiers to see if they like skiing without it being such a great expense. First time skiers are always going to be on the nursery/green slopes at the start of the week. All the best
