i've never taken my own skis on holiday before, but got some this year and have paid for carriage of them. I'm not sure what it is like for other airlines but the Balkan Holidays website states 'The ski/snowboard allowance is 1 bag to hold a pair of poles, boots and either a pair of skis or a snowboard, the weight of this bag must not exceed 15kg', now how on earth are you supposed to take your boots in the same bag as your skis are in, as the bag simply isn't big enough... would appreciate ...

yeah ahaa... just weird how balkan holiday have worded it, that it's one bag for skis, poles and boots; and we're not actualy flying with them, cause all the flights from bristol sold out, we decided to go from heathrow to realise after that it's on a Bulgaria Air scheduled flight instead!
HI Dean,
What Coxer said is right, what I would recommend is that you buy a "hard" ski case like a sports tube as this will give greater protection to your skis than a normal cloth case

sure you will be able to find it cheaper than that
I normally put my skis and poles in my ski bag and then pad it out with ski jacket /trousers jeans /socks etc and as much of that sort of stuff as I can. This protects the skis and leaves room in my case for my boots which I fill with stuff like goggles etc before putting them in the case. this way I can get all I need in my 35kilo allowance.
dbut
Every year I take a ski bag with ski's, poles, clothing wrapped around to protect them plus a seperate boot bag with socks etc in (also useful to protect bottles on the way home). Never had a problem with this method.
Just buy a snowboard bag ...I get my board and boots, wifes skis poles and loads of other kit in it. Just get one with wheels. Far better than a ski bag and boot bag.
Same as dbut, done it for many years, Canada 3 times same then, thread your skis through your salopettes thick socks on the end of the tips. Boots go in case/holdall.
If flying Easyjet and you purchase 1 ski equipment package you receive 32kg weight, 20 kg that they have to give you for carriage (they only charge you for the bag you use) and 12 kg for your ski bag.
So if you have a large enough ski bag you can always put everything in there as long as it is under 32kg...cheaper than buying hold baggage at £25 each way..
