Be careful with the cheaper policies and read all the fine print - especially when it comes to winter sports and what it does and doesn't cover. A mate got stung a couple of years ago when he broke a leg just to the side of the piste. It was considered off piste and he wasn't covered.

Last year my brother in law had his snowboard nicked and when he got back to make a claim, they initially wouldn't pay out because he didn't know to report the theft to local police and get a case number. He eventually got them to pay out, but they only covered a 5th of the cost as the board was 3 years old.

Also a lot of standard policies that include winter sports will exclude things like skidoos and other snow activities you may want to do on holiday.

So whatever policy you take, just make sure you're covered for whatever you plan on doing.

re: Ski insurance

Ta for the tips Garrick. I've been trawling for weeks. Managed to get policy that covers skidoo and off piste stuff too. Amazing though a lot of the really pricey policies with branded names seem not to cover these things and more........

re: Ski insurance

Hi Callum,
My husbands got a lib tech board so def doesn't want that pinched and I've got half decent skis. We make sure we don't leave them outside ( or out of sight ) when on breaks! Just put them inside the entrance 'porch' of bars etc. no-one will complain!.
