re: Skier Killed In Bansko

I agree that wearing a helmet is a very good idea but a helmet may not have prevented this tragic accident as we don't know if he died from a head impact or otherwise.

Read my post above about skiing abilities.

An example of another skier who died this year. This time a helmet may well have saved her life.
We've all been warned, but hands up, who is going to wear a helmet next time they go skiing?

And yet another death, in the last day or so.

Look guys, I have a wife and 3 kids. This weekend we're all looking at head protection.

Remember Natasha Richardson. It doesn't have to be a severe blow to the head to kill you.

re: Skier Killed In Bansko

We went and bought ourselves helmets last weekend ready for half term. always thought about it before, kids have had them since they started. If helmets help to save one life every season, then isn't it worth looking a bit of a numpty!!!

Wentto Boro at Christmas and wore helmets for first time - looked odd with 4 of us wearing helmets when lot of locals etc didn't, but if I hadn't worn one, my 14 year old definately wouldn't. You get used to them very quickly and they certainly keep your head warm!

Ski safe guys

RIP.

I arrived back from Bansko yesterday and knew nothing of this. A helmet may not have made any odds as one of the things that will stop me going back to Bansko is their current level of safety and care.

Skiing is a sport, with inherant dangers... helmets, armour, bullet proof vests etc... they will protect to a certain extent, but do you know what the biggest killer is ??? the same as virtually any sport in the world, heart attacks or seizures... from poor preparation normally, exasperated by lower levels of oxygen at high altitude causing the system to work even harder putting additional strains on the bodies organs...

Perhaps it will come that every skier/boarder will require a doctors ...

Perhaps it will come that every skier/boarder will require a doctors certificate for a level of fitness before gaining insurance for a skiing holiday...

re: Skier Killed In Bansko

Steve C - agree completely with you, but even the fittest skier/boarder can die by hitting their head on a rock. Take the risk down and wear protection.
