Steve C - agree completely with you, but even the fittest skier/boarder can die by hitting their head on a rock. Take the risk down and wear protection.

grey wolf, its great you agree with me so many times Wink
I personally wear a helmet, the first season ever that i have in more than thirty years of skiing... I am happy that the decision to wear one was mine, and not dictated by a faceless moron in the goverment... I would hate legislation that forced anything, but i can see it happening (for our own good ??? Crying)

re: Skier Killed In Bansko

mikey they only died for a week??? were they resurected? only joking now what you meant.

On the topic of looking like a numpty with the locals not wearing them, they also dont like wearing seat belts, look at the amount of memorials on the side of the roads!!

I started wearing one two years ago, would go out without one now, its not necassarily what you do, could be someone else hitting you as happned in Boro two years ago, the guy with the helmet survived the other one didnt!! Confused

not one rubber cover on any of the chair lifts poles on the slopes. Rocks stones etc all over the piste. Going down the blue run to the bottom of the gondola you ski next to the river and the rocks. Wouldnt be a great fall but one wrong edge and you could really hurt yourself. Very few safety nets or anything from stopping you going into the wrong area in fact the only nets i saw were to stop you going down a shut run.

Dogs chasing you down the slopes was an interesting one!!!

re: Skier Killed In Bansko

i persuaded my brother to buy a helmet this year as he is a klutz.

On the last day i met him for lunch where he finally thanked me for making him look like a muppet all week as he had an almighty wipe out and smashed his head on the ice. He was dazed and mildly concussed and that was with wearing the helmet. If he had not who knows what or if he would be in any state.
