i know that you wont be a expert straight off but as the others say getting used to the kit is half the battle. i was at the snowdome the other week. it is expensive but the instructors there are great. i learn't there many years ago & my son also learn't there too. i think that it would be worth it and it is also a great laugh indoors. When you get on the mountain slopes the instructors will test you for your ability and place you in groups according to the results...if the school is any good that is. You dont mention where you are going but both Pamps and Boro are excellent places to ski for beginners and intermediate skiers in my experiance and have never come across a bad instructor. we still take an instructor but as more of a guide for us.
however do lessons first, if you can firstly afford the Snowdome and secondly if you can get in... i know they are busy at this time. They do a learn to ski in a day i think... that will get you to at least controlled snow plough turns but they aim for parallel turns by the end of the day.
18 day's to Boro for us....
What every you chose to do you will have a blast indoors or out... Have Fun
Hmm. It's a difficult one this, and I've actually changed my mind after thinking about it. My fist thought was definitely have lessons before you go, now I'm not sure.
I would say - if there's a group of you going and most have skied before then definitely have a leson or two before you go. That way you can all head out together. Being left at a lesson whilst everyone else goes off exploring is no fun.

However, if there's a group of you that are all beginners, then I wouldn't have lessons before you go. Learning on a mountain is much more fun than at the snowdome, and you''ll have a great time progressing together, and laughing at each other's falls!

I'd say go for it. A few hours in the snowdome in a smallish group could kock 2 days off sidestepping in a large BG beginners group.
If you get to BG and have mastered the basics you may need to aske to be moved up from the side stepping beginners group. You may find yourself snowploughing down the easy runs on the mountain in an early intermediate group and will have far more fun this way.
up to you do what will makes you feel more comfortable on the slopes never been to a ski dome only mountains i went skiing 1990 once with school and started again in 2007 and went straight to intermediate once you have grasped the parralel turn skiing is much more fun oh and stopping that helps too good luck with what you decide
hey how can anybody say no to a few lessons before you go skiing (unless they are mad) do you know how to put them on and off? can you get around on them ? do you know what a snowplough is ? at our dry slope we can have you ploughing within an hour ,saves you wasting 2 days trying to do it with an instructor that speaks bad english ,
i do however take a week off from skiing and training prior to a ski hol just in case .

we see it to often people who ski just for a week or two a year and when they come back to us the following season they wonder why they are no better i ask you would you get better at football if you only played for a week a year well with skiing that is also true i know and ski all year round and once you can do it on dentex ,snow is easy
so give us british slopes some support and use us and yes the dome at tamworth is expensive to learn at ,i know as i am a member but on our slope we charge £17.50 for 1 on 1 for an hour and half of teaching
Hi there, we are going to pamps in march..first time skiers, myself ,wife and 2 children and we have booked learn to ski packs. All the advice we have been given was to get a few lessons before going, it really has opened ours eyes.... knowing what boots feel like, how to side step up hills etc... why waste a day of your hols we think getting the absolute basics... we are currently learning at Telford.. now i know its a dry slope but surely any practice we can get here will only benefit ...

i forgot to add that for the kids lessons its only £4.95 for an hour and for me and the wife lessons it is £16.35 for a two hour tuition... each time myself and the wife have been there has only 4 or 3 of us per instructor so all in all very good value for money me thinks
