Ok so I'm new to this forum and have read an awful lot of reviews about Borovets.
A group of 10 friends and I are heading out to Borovets on the 27th Dec for a week. Some of us have been before but it was in 2000, I'm assuming a lot has changed?
Should I be concerned about returning for a week over New Year....90% of the reviews I have read have been pretty unpleasant about the resort.
I am in the same boat as you Nick. However I am taking the stance that I am going away for just 5 days and if I can get some snow time in, have a beer or 5 and have a laugh then I am sure all will be fine. My mate who I am going with went last year and is going back so I guess it can't be too bad!
Crnt see the concern its snowy friendly, reasonable and relaxed.
Find out for yourself!
Its good enough for me to choose it as my resort for the season and i have no other interests there except snow and beer.
Mitch going for the fifth time, like most people on this board they keep going back for more. the only difference is the place is not as cheap as it used to be but you will still have a ball with loads of good bars and nice people
My own personal exeprience but went to Borovets last year, first week of march. Skiing for 10 years now, mainly Alps but brought 7 friends on their first ski holiday. Of my 7 friends, only one is going skiing this year.
This is because of a number of factors. They expected to be in a cold mountain type resort with lots of snow but it was 17degrees outside and precipitation fell as rain.It was not as cheap as ppl make out and the beginner runs that they were on were in terrible condition, ...

This is because of a number of factors. They expected to be in a cold mountain type resort with lots of snow but it was 17degrees outside and precipitation fell as rain.It was not as cheap as ppl make out and the beginner runs that they were on were in terrible condition, grass muck and rocks everyhwere and melted weird mushy stuff that was meant to be snow. I do think if we had been there a few weeks before it would have been alot better but first week of march is not late season, well maybe for bulgaria it is.
I think our poor experience of the place revolved around the poor snow. I wasn't impressed with nightlife either, 10 guys to every girl but it was the snow that we we were there for and never experienced it. No doubt this post will probably be attacked due to its negativity but it is my opinion based on an experience. I hope conditons fair better for yourself and if they do i'm sure you'll have a good holiday
Hi Mitch,
The resort hasn't really changed much since 2000. More new hotels, app. / so more people. (longer waiting-time for lifts/gondola - best start before 09.00 am. / or after 12.30) but the atmosphere is more or less still the same. You'll love it or you'll hate it ( I love it ). Last year on the upper slopes was +/- 200 cm. snow - super conditions around christmas/new year.
Like allways / everywhere; must be lucky with the weather or pull your wallet and go to the Alps above 2.000m. ...
