Out in Bansko right now and temps are starting to drop. Was snowing this morning and a bit overnight on slopes but was only a thin layer. Snow canons were starting to operate this afternoon, even down to about halfway down ski road before temps rose above operating temps. Lower temps has made a big difference as snow was turning to slush midday before. Slopes very busy, as quite a few chairlifts shut. No access to platato, t-bar and Poma been shut last 5 days due to high winds?? Ski instructor been saying it's being kept good for New Year crowds? Either way it's a lot of people being squeezed on less slopes but can't complain too much after reading about no snow at other resorts. Tombs run is open and doesn't half warm the legs up
Any other info needed just ask and will try to help, off now to have a beer in Irish bar
If you can get to Platoto, there is no reason not to have the t-bar open. Total con from Ulen there, especially for the poor buggers being shipped in from Borovets who have to pay for two lift passes
The homepage says that all the slopes are open???????
I was in bansko from the 21 dec. and I think that platato was closed all week. They said that it was due to high wind. But some of the days there was not much wind at all.
And some af the slopes that could have been open was not. Strange when you think about how many people there was om the few open slopes.
If it is true that they are sawing the slopes to new year, I think that I will newer go to Bansko again.
Exactly, we can get chairlift from shiligarnik to bottom of platato and there is sometimes a bit of a breeze but nothing to stop the drag lifts, looking up both the slopes either side of drags look really peachy to ski on but are untouched apart from a couple of diehards who have climbed up on foot. The rumours of the slopes being saved for New Years rush is a bit much when we are paying same price for ski pass now. However temps have definately dropped, unfortunatly it's a clear sky ...

im part of the "new year crowd " and in a way slightly happy about the lift and slope ordeal, however doesnt sound too good for you guys..especially as reviews have said that bansko is the best and most modern resort in bulgaria... im going to be comparing it to pomporovo!
Wind blows the snow off the piste in platato making it dangerous with exposed rocks etc. Unlike the slopes further down the mountain platoto needs at least a metre of snow to cover what is pretty rough terrain by comparison. The t- bars are not shut due to current wind conditions rather they are waiting for more snow to cover the rocks etc exposed by high winds a few days ago.
Damo, I obviously don't want to offend, but if you take a look at this picture that was taken only a few months ago, please could you point out this rough terrain that requires a metre of snow coverage, because I don't see it?

I doubt the slopes are even being preserved for the New Year crowd, to be honest. More like they are being preserved for the massive influx of Russians that generally comes over for the Orthadox Christmas celebrations on the 7th Jan.
