Why is Red 12 the only run closed in Bansko? I ask as two years ago Ulen made significant investment in Snow Cannons for this run as it hadn't been running for years.

Madness that they didnt put in snow cannos ages ago as you have one run not being used ready to go which if used reduces ski numbers on the other runs - result is those other runs stand up to the daily usage a bit better and are also not as busy.

To even consider trying to create new runs when you are not maximising what you already have isn't a very smart investment decision.

Steve
you are posting a survey which is ONE MONTH old.
Whats next ?
Surveys from last year or from before.
The fact of the matter is that after Xmas and New Year weeks everywhere the numbers are traditionally down and the 203 weeks in Jan following NY are with empty slopes and no queues whatsoever .Most of the resorts don't need to open all of the slopes if there are 10 percent capacity for the week..
And anyway at 20th Jan the snow dumps were so good that changed the situation ...

And anyway at 20th Jan the snow dumps were so good that changed the situation drastically since and brought up the snow levels well into the average to end of Jan.
But the things did not stop there.
It is almost daily news of more and more snow and RIGHT NOW the ski season in the Alps has more than enough to keep going even without a single flake falling from the cloudy sky until end of April.
One thin g which is missing though is the sun and people with establishments on the higher slopes are praying for stable conditions and sunny skies (which have been heard Smile )
So all in all very good ski season
I don't know about Bulgarian ski conditions you are there you should know better and inform us if there is anything about the snow to report..
I look at the BG web cams right now and it ain't good.
I look at the BG weather forecast and it ain't good.
If I am getting ready to go somewhere skiing I tell you it is not going to be Bulgaria solely for the above reasons.
If the dumps come and stay on the Bulgarian mountains, may be I will be paying a ski visit. there.
We have a problem though:
The snow less views from the upper slopes tell me that to open (Borovets on top) there is huge amount of snow for days.
And that snow to battle to stay during the spring days ahead.
Probably I rather go biking in there than do anything else.
Of course things can change for the better and cover the mountains with 1-2 meters of fresh stuff and stay solid until mid April.
I take my money where the snow is right now and after.

I said the report was from January ??? the unseasonal low snow fall was Europe wide...
I am not going to argue snow depths, but this is not a good season generally, temperatures even across the Alps have been higher than normal, this accounting for the massive avalanche risks... Undoubtedly the Alps have had snow, i have friends there right now, some in the 'Portes du Soleil' and others in Meribel, both showing good conditions, not great conditions, but good nevertheless...

We do need snow, the high temperatures in the last few days have taken their toll, even lower temps would aid the situation... I have never seen the back slopes of the Vihren completely devoid of snow in February, in fact in the 10 years i have been here in the winter i have never seen a season like this one... still enjoyed my skiing yesterday though Wink
