Some questions about Pamporovo snowboarding lessons & passes

Hey everyone, I have been lurking quietly on this forum for a number for weeks now getting ready for my trip to Pamporovo on December 24th with my partner. I have picked up so much useful stuff on here, so thank you to everyone that posts. Cool

I booked the holiday myself; flights through Ryanair and accommodation through Balkan & I had originally planned to book lessons ahead too, but my dad has bought us a "lean to snowboard in a day" course in Birmingham as a very generous Christmas gift, the details are here if needed: http://www.snowdome.co.uk/ski-snowboard/learn-to-ski-or-snowboard-in-a-day/

If this course is as good as it sounds, will we still need lessons and which type of lessons would we be best getting? Balkan weren't much help really. If we left it until we were there, would it cost a lot more?

If we don't need lessons how else do we get a pass and all the equipment? Looking around, I have only found this website, are they reputable would anyone know? http://www.skipamporovo.bg/index.php?id=67&page=SKI_PACKS_2010%2F2011

Thank so much for any advice, fingers crossed for a bucket of snow over the next few weeks Very Happy

Hello, You should be able to get the pass from your travel agents. Try and get it before you go as last time we went to they sold the ski pass on the bus there but it was twice the price. Where are you staying? We are going out boxing day Smile

re: Some questions about Pamporovo snowboarding lessons & passes

@ Steve Gee - I can ski, but fancied learning to snowboard this year; my bum might regret it in a few weeks though!

@Lucy - I didn't use a travel agent as it was a bit more expensive. I'm going to Pamporvoro and staying at Hotel & Apartments Snezhanka. For a Snowboard pack (incl. snowboard, soft boots, lift pass, 2hrs daily tuition for 3 days) it's 133 euro for 6 days p/p; does that sound right to you?

V. excited to go, I bet you can't wait either!?

Hi Hayley
If you left it until you arrived then yes, it would cost a bit more than those published prices but at least you would know more about the snow conditions and whether or not you are likely to get much boarding in.

If you have already had a 'learn to snowboard' in a day then you will have covered the basics and you would progress so much faster with some one to one private tuition - maybe a couple of hours on day1, 3 and 5 - and use the days inbetween to practise. Or asses your ...

Or asses your needs as the holiday progresses.
I would recommend you get your private tuition from Interski, down at Ski centre 2. http://interskipamporovo.com/indexUS.html

The ski pass can be bought before you go but again, if conditions are poor and with it being Christmas, you decide not to ski for a day or two - its a fair bit to lose. You might be better off purchasing once you get there even though it is more expensive.

We were there for new year a couple of years back and ended up just buying half day passes as the snow was unskiable by the afternoon. We were not unduly bothered as hadn't really gone for the skiing but to fit our apartment out but I would have been sick if I'd purchased full passes and not used them.

I tried it for a day Hayley and it was face plant after face plant. I honestly felt like I had gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson !

The best of luck to you both

It's definitely not for everyone is it Steve, but most of my friends do it every year so I feel like I am missing out. I'm quite good at iceskating so I'm hoping that will help Confused

@Snow White, thank so much for your reply, that really was all the things I have been trying to weigh up! I am just a bit sad that I can't find more information about how much a half day pass it etc? Would you know a website that has more detail by any chance.

As an aside I am flying into Polvdiv, it's 102euro for a round trip transfer or 98euro for a hire car. Is it worth getting a hire car in case the snow is pants so we can go and explore other areas or is it better to get a driver in case the snow is too bad and the roads un-driveable? The time last year we were driving through the Atlas mountains so are used to driving abroad.

Thanks again everyone.

re: Some questions about Pamporovo snowboarding lessons & passes

Pretty much all the time when the temperatures are low enough. As much as they can when there is not a great deal of actual snow.
