sorry Pamp pete
you are correct I should not have generlised - like you I love the Blugarian people but a few of the taxis drivers do tend to make up their income by asking for more than they should, I was asked for 30 leva for a 5 leva journey thats the worst one I got...
but yes Bulgarian fold in general are the kindest people you will ever meet.....
please accept my apologies I will think before I write in future
I am coming to the conclusion that Bulgaria is just a big rip off...
I went skiing two weeks ago to Voralberg, Austria, for a week. I flew from Stansted to Friedrichshafen Airport (£100 return), then got on the special shuttle bus to Bludenz (which carries on to Lech and St Anton) for €50 return and the family hotel I was staying in picked me up.
The hotel (3*, HB) cost me €60 per night. Ski pass for 7 days cost me €170 and that covered the whole valley of Montafon (http://www ...

The hotel (3*, HB) cost me €60 per night. Ski pass for 7 days cost me €170 and that covered the whole valley of Montafon (http://www.montafon.at/portal/content/2001/index.php?&lid=eng), with its 62 cable-cars and chair-lifts, around 222 km of sign-posted and tended pistes, ski touring on Silvretta`s white glaciers, 100 km of cross-country skiing tracks, about 290 km of winter foot- and snow shoe-hiking paths, sports and natural toboggan runs (some floodlit), 10 ski schools, 8 ski kindergartens with adventure parks for kids, a covered artificial ice rink, 2 tennis halls and plenty of après ski make for a memorable and active winter holiday.
Skiing was excellent and safe, plenty of snow and snow making equipment, I spent no more than €30 a day on food and drinks, food was excellent and Austrians are very hospitable and honest - so overall, the holiday cost me in total £715 for seven days of excellent skiing, food, charming and staying in aesthetically pleasing environment, etc.
Now, how does this compare to what you get in Bulgaria?
forgot to say sorry to all the lovely bulgarian people I have met on my travels and all the ones I have yet to meet - yes I am feeling extremely guilty over what I put.....
not sure about how Austria compares, but I stayed in a town at Christmas in Velingrad and for E37 I got a five star hotel with a spa and all the works bed breakfast- flight cost me E169, and my friends went off skiing for two days and they paid 100 leva for all four for ski hire in Bansko, and 20 leva each per day for ...

Baz sounds like you had a good time, but for £715 there is two of us going to Borovets all in, including transfers, hire, lift pass etc etc
and I have skied in other countries in the past but I always choose to go back to Borovets because it has a bit of everything and why change something your happy with
hi
im going to borovets on 21st and staying at hotel edelweiss brochure says its about 20min walk to main gondalas, so what would the norm be for taxi's for that kind of distance. i take it the night life isn't far from gondala's. i cant wait...
Be a bit more honest and include the TOTAL COST of your holiday (i.e. including the cost of your meals and drinks out), how many days of skiing, what kind of place you stayed in, where you ate, etc. You cannot persuade me that the TOTAL COST of your holiday in a proper 3* hotel (as opposed to a horrible post-communist concrete block)for seven days of skiing was £357.50pp!

Jan i think the edelweiss is near to where i stayed last year (Zodiac). The taxi fare would be anything between 5-10 lev.
Although by the end of the week they would only be charging us 5 Lev. Saying that though there would nearly always be 4 of us in the taxi so we would give them 10 lev anyway. £3 odd between 4 people is nothing really is it.
baz what we have found is that if you are taking kids bulgeria is cheap usually have kids prices and free kids, if your doing a late deal and dont care where you go and where you fligh from you can get a better price with more slopes lifts ect but do you use them all? also is there any ski resort that bets bulgeria on apres ski I would think not, most of them we have been to charge around a fiver a pint, 30 euros for dinner isnt cheap thats about £23 I was paying around 10 leve about £3 ...
