If prices have stayed the same accross europe this still means an increase of 25% for us brits because of the £-euro/lev anywhere in europe will seem more expensive than last year.
I’m visiting Borovets again this year. Couldn’t make it last year as I had to endure a season in Zillertal, Austria, where the price of a half litre varied from e2.80 to 3.80. (2007 Tignes, France e6.50+)
This year, I’ve elected to work in UK and have again chosen Borovets as a holiday destination.
I know it’s not perfect. But so long as there is snow... and I’ve always been made to feel welcome by the locals.

Some interesting comments.

Having worked with the Austrians; lived with the Austrians; got P****d with the Austrians; I can tell you it’s all about keeping the tourists happy. Try to please everybody and you’ll fail. Find a recipe and keep to it. I believe the residents and staff in Borovets found the recipe many years ago – and have not failed. The numbers who return year after year are testimony to this.
Is the resort not growing?
That said, maybe some do look miserable. But so do some staff in French resorts – forbidden by management to engage with guests in idle conversation. It may not be the staff who are at fault.
In Austria, staff appear to be encouraged to engage in conversation with guests; duties permitting. It may not necessarily be so in a country that holds a former, rigid regime in recent memory.
Maybe some managers are what we might call traditionalists. All smiles to the guests yet complete and utter b*****ds to their staff.
Roll on the 10th of Jan and to hell with the prices. I’ll be on holiday.
I was just trying to be informative. Unlike you, I can ski to the bottom of the mountain without asking my parents permission or using a sledge or even asking them to make my packed lunch!!!!
As for labelling people as you seem to be doing!!!! I'll do the same- Think you're a COCK!!!
We went to Borovets this Xmas and had a great family holiday. We were very close to the centre and the facilities for kids were very good. It was certainly no cheaper than our usual resorts in Italy though and the pistes were nowhere near as good.
I enjoyed the atmosphere in the resort and was busier than Italy, but the skiing, lifts equipment etc was very poor by comparison.
Although we enjoyed it, I think Italy provides a better value / quality balance.
fair responce Blackers- given we who have been at alternative european resorts know what is on offer- however still when you look for a deal its hard to find a better one!

Yes, my experience of the Ski World is limited. Only about 26 weeks and only in the best resorts in the world eg Courchevel, Tignes/Val d'Isere, La Plagne, Sella Ronda, St Anton, Vail, Whistler etc. So Bulgaria is the cheapest place I have ever been where there is skiing. You have clearly irritated a lot of people with your ridiculous comments, particularly those of us who keep our negative thoughts to ourselves. You really ought to think a bit before you put finger to keyboard.
do you really know what you are talking about?
Please read all postings carefully, try to think them over and then write a comment.
Those Bulgarians that can afford skiing in the Alps do not really belong to the "working class" and they are not representative for "normal Bulgarians".
As a matter of fact the prices in BG ski resorts are too high in comparison to the everage income in BG (full stop)

you are wrong , i have neverv complained about here, iski every weekend with Bulgarians, Not at the main resorts, we go to lots of different ones, that in general only cater for Bulgarians. I assure you I know lots of Bulgarian skiers, non of whom go to austria. Maybe rich Sofians do, but lots of them also go to Borovets and Bansko at the weekends, I have met them.

It is not expensive here if you know where to go, less than 20 leva for a bed and 1.20 leva for a beer on the piste. In general though , no tourists.Anybody in Bansko who has not bought a pass should try Dobrinishte. Not far away and different prices.
If you want cheap skiing, try Kosovo. I know Bulgarians who go there.
