Some of us come from motorbike, cycling, skateboarding or canoeing backgrounds and have always worn suitable head protection but they day it's made compulsory my helmet will be coming off
So - you don't wear a helmet riding a motor bike then Niki? Just because it was made compulsary? Methinks not!
To answer you questions - I've been wearing a helmet now for about 4 years. I also had a very powerful motobike when I was younger, and always wore a helmet.
It seems you want to rebel against common sense just because it might one day be made compulsary. So don't you wear a seatbelt in your car because its compulsary?
Your arguement is futile and an extremely bad example ...

If its law then rebel - pathetic!
So no - this is not a 'crusade' as you put it. It's a common sense bit of advice because I actually care about people. If they want to ignore that advice that's entirely up to them.
Dr Mike Langran, a specialist in head and ski injuries based in Aviemore, says: "While wearing a helmet should not be viewed as a panacea against fatal injury and should not give the wearer a false sense of security, the fundamental response to the question of whether or not skiers and riders should wear a helmet is easy: yes. The real question is whether helmets should become mandatory on the slopes?
I love the remark about this being a crusade, personally I think its time the EU took a stance and made it compulsory to wear ski helmets while skiing (I would hate anyone to think I mean in everyday life!!). Sorry but this is an important issue and the sooner it becomes law the better.
Im buying mine & the kids helmets before we go next year- we did wear the hired ones this year in Canada, but didnt have a lot of faith in them being rather old i thought!
cant be too safe!
PP. Only 4 years and helmets have been available for nearly 20, I am guessing you have been skiing or snowboarding for more than 4 years, didn't notice a helmet on your head whilst doing your good deed for charity in the PP Skiathong. bit like a converted none smoker preaching. And as you ask, no I don't always wear a helmet whilst motorbiking, if I'm in a country where it is not compulsory I choose, the same when skateboarding, in a concrete park or doing slalom cones, I wear one, if I'm ...

However I always wear a seatbelt, remember 'clunk click every trip', don't want that big hammer to smash my peach. Freedom of choice is what it's all about
Please o please o please, do not make it law to wear a helmet when you are skiing/boarding....
Let common sense prevail, and at least those without be informed of the dangers and make their own decision...
Legislation, a slippery slope... that tends not to stop...

Nightmuffy,
Rightly or wrongly i am totally in agreement with you.
Let common sense prevail..............
(But i have to admit - - after what happened to the fat boy snowboarder Mrs Do it Man is buying me a helmet for christmas and i won't be skiing/boarding without one again...........)
