Been reading with interest about the price inflation in all resorts this season.
Well, it is maybe our own fault - as constantly over the years we heard so many people openingly expressing how 'cheap' everything was in Bulgaria - which it was.
But the Bulgarians are not stupid, and when they hear this over and over again then they are bound to review their prices and measures.

Personally I will still go to Bulgaria every year as I love it so much, but I know many of you will think long and hard before booking again if other European destination are within your budget.
It is a developing nation, maybe developing to quick for it's own good and they are in danger of killing the golden goose by overpricing themselves out of the market.
Resort improvement are one thing - value for money is another and if they wish to compete with the very best of Europe then there needs to be some very careful thinking over the next couple of years.
I reserve my full judgement on this until I go in March and see for myself, but it's the new business that will suffer, and that long term could be a very big mistake indeed.
in comparison to a lot of ski resorts its still cheap friends of mine where in the three valleys over xmas a glass of hot wine was £6 each, when I wasin bulgaria in 2002 people were moaning how expensive it was, depends on what your expecting.
Still very cheap in Bansko last March. It does seem to be Pamps and Borovets were the competetion is not so much especially Pamps that this is happening in.
Agree with what Sam has said my second time in Pamps in 99 I was chatting to a couple and they thought they had been ripped off over a plate of chips!!!!! They had not I just think they where expecting to pay 10p or soemthing.
But have to agree Pete, if they keep putting prices up and people feel they are being ripped off then they ...

You can ski many places across Europe for really bargain prices if you shop around and many of these deals are Half Board or Bed & breakfast. Yes you may pay more for you plate of chips or a beer but if you get 10x as many slopes and you are not paying an awful lot more for a lift pass, then that makes Bulgaria a lot less attractive.
I will access when I'm out in February, if I think I'm being ripped off I'll go somewhere else next year. I'm happy to show loyality but I'm not going to line someone elses pockets through sheer greed.

Speaking with one of my colleagues over Christmas...he just happens to be of Ukrainian forefathers..he waxed lyrically about his bargain ski deals across in Ukraine and Poland.
It sounds just like the value deals we used to discuss on this board a few years ago...but that's evolution I guess...we will move further and further east and once house prices, consumer good and holiday prices catch up we move on again! If the infrastructure (flights etc) keeps pace then it becomes accessible to ...

So don't be too disheartened or surprised by the Bulgaria feedback - the world is now a market economy and WE create the market!
I'm off to Boro on sat 12th for the 5th time I return every year because I love the place and because it is or maybe, was very very resonable and I could afford to take the kids with sometimes a friend too.
I have been asked to ski with friends at other countries but have declined. This year I have managed to persuade them to come to Boro telling them how good value for money it is

We were going to return in March but I will weigh up the pros and cons, maybe try another country if the price is equal.
I hope they have not priced themselves out as we love Boro
muddybloke, we will see you at gatwick or join you at Boro for a few
