The nine day forecast does not give much encouragement for the early season skiers in Bulgaria:
Bansko = 1cm snow
Borovets = 2cm
Chepelare = 1cm
Malyovista = 1cm
Pamporovo = 1cm
Vitosha = 1cm
But heres the good news:
Avoriaz, where me & the Nudger family are going on Boxing Day = 80cm
Yes, that's right, 80cm of snowfall predicted in the nine day forecast
Although Avoriaz is an ugly purpose built resort, it has fantastic skiing and a great snow record. It has ski access to Morzine, Les Gets,Chatel and several Swiss resorts. It's great if you like to cover lots of miles in a day and don't like just skiing the same few runs repeatedly. It is of greatest benefit to intermediate/advanced skiers but also good for beginners.
I've been there before Steve C, & by your comment I sort of expect that you haven't.
I've also been to Borovets & by your comment I sort of expect that you haven't.
We'll actually be staying at Les Gets, down the hill from Avoriaz, & it's one of the nicest Villages. The Independent got it right when they had Les Gets at No. 1 in their article "The 50 best places to ski this winter"
Errr, i have, many times though must admit to not staying in Avoriaz, i had friends who had a chalet in Morzine.. Les Gets is a big improvement on Avoriaz, in fact any of the resorts in the Porte Du Soleil are, even Morzine. I do like Chatel, more typical of an old French resort, a bit chic, but still nice for all that.
If the area does not have a lot of snow Avoriaz can be lethal, the ice can take some mastering, and the wall (Le Mur) down to Switzerland can be fun also. Had fun also ...

There is a great off-piste valley run back down to Morzine to the base of one bubble, i remember that run very fondly...
Only joshing with you anyway (but Avoriaz is horrible), staying down in Les Gets is a much better option (and cheaper)
You will be able to get 100's of km's under your belt, on perfectly groomed billiard table smooth piste if conditions are good, Switzerland is worth a visit, Les Crosets is easiest to access from Avoriaz, and is linked to Champery by cablecar, i found lunch there to be cheaper than Avoriaz... though im assuming you know all this having been there before...
O, and i have skied Borovets a couple of times as well
What part of Gods Great Country are you from ? Ski holiday this season is Borovets and have not picked a 2nd yet, past 3 years done Bannf & Panorama B.C. which is absolutely amazing. Have Skis will travel.
dbut & S.P. only going to Boro for the free Tomatoe Rakia this year
There's so much mileage at PDS that I've not seen a lot of what you're describing. We tend to ski mainly around the Morzine & Les Gets circuits, only venturing up to Avoriaz occassionally, except at night time when we quite enjoy some of the eating & shopping in Avoriaz.
From your comments I'll perhaps look into taking in Les Crosets & Champery.

Thanks for that info Steve C.

I'm in the minority regards the appearance of Avoriaz. It stems from the first time we went up there, it was night-time & snowing, my kids loved the horse carriages & there were some fireworks & activities in the centre. It all caught the moment.
When looking up at Avoriaz from the Pleney it looks spectacular in an understated sort of way. The Architecture is done to blend into the mountains whereby you can't even see the structures unless you look for them.
Rest assured I'll not be attempting Le Mur Suisse this winter or any time soon. I'm happy to leave that to more accomplished & confident skiers like your goodself.
