It depends very much on when you want to go.

In 2009 we are governed by mock GCSEs, AS levels, so have to go half term week, and that is going to be really spendy for 4 of us if I do the usual package thing. I started planning right after we got back on 5th January this year!

My first choice of the catered Chalet Iskar was already booked, and several 2 bedroom apartments I enquired about were either booked or reserved by their owners for that week next Feb.

But I found and have paid the deposit on a 2 bedroom-2 bathroom apartment in the Royal Plaza slap-bang in the centre of Borovets. By booking 13 months in advance I have been guaranteed 2008 prices! (Just a touch under £400 for the week, and that's for 4 of us).

Easyjet flights from Gatwick will go on sale in the summer, as will BA flights from Heathrow. We can use Airmiles for 3 tickets, maybe all 4 by then (thank goodness for tesco clubcard points - they do add up and you only need £100 worth of them to fly to Sofia!) so we will probably go for free from LHR, and pray they don't lose our bags...

Transfers seem to be around £60 from Sofia for a minivan for 4, not a big deal. So it's just the equipment, lift pass and lessons, plus meals. Well, breakfast is easy, toast and cereal in the apartment. Lunch is on the slopes and has to be paid for anyway. Eating out in the evening can be done on a budget, and it looks like Samokov town will be seeing us a few times!

Given that I needed an apartment with 4 separate beds (taking 3 teenagers so they can't share a bed) I don't feel I booked any too soon, and am already thinking about 2010.

green frog that's really helpful - I'd written off going skiing next year due to son's exam's - hadn't thought that there maybe a way to do it without starving for the rest of the year.Cheers Very Happy

Suzanne,
I'D book now, we are in the final processes of booking for 2009, If you look at Inghams & Thomsons there both offering a good "early bird savers" were saving £280.00 per couple.
Hope this helps. Very Happy
