Havent been to Bulgaria in four years, but I still read this discussion board (which is an excellent discussion board).
Looks like prices have gone up - This will really kill any new or repeat business from UK and Irish skiers - lets be honest the snow in Bulgaria has been poorer than Austria, Italy and France for the last few years and a combination of poor snow and rip off prices will turn people away from Bulgaria.

The hotel food is awful. If you half board in in an Italian hotel the food is usually very good and the snow/pisting/lifts miles better than Bulgaria for just a little bit more money.
Pamporovo was/is a pretty ski resort, I get the impression this may not be the case for much longer.
To keep going as a viable ski resort (10, 15 20 etc years down the line) I think Pamporovo needs to invest in and use Snow Cannons and sort their hotels out.
We looked into going back to Pamps for the last three years but didnt bother because of the above reasons, which is a pity because we enjoyed it at the time
I was in Pamporovo 8th - 15th March. This was my first Skiing holiday and my first time to Bulgaria.
We stayed at the Hotel Belmont which was fantastic. The food, service and staff were exceptional. The snow condtions weren't that good but we still had a fab time.
We were told Bulgaria was very cheap to eat/drink out but i must say this was not the case. A lunch which consisted of pizza and chips and a drink each cost the equivalent of £9.00 each, so decide for yourself how ...

Anyway i would definately go back, but maybe Borovets next time, we've definately got the Skiing bug!!

Re Borovets I would seriously suggest you look elsewhere I have skied all three Bulgarian resorts and was very dissapointed with Borovets if you thought that 9 pound for a pizza was expensive try 4 pounds for a snicker bar.
No more Bulgaria for me will gladly pay the extra and enjoy better kept resorts which satisfy all
me i paid a fiver for one snickers,as was not used to exchange hubby hit the roof and almost hit the barmaid, not welcome there they said they didnt want greedy english there in bulgaria trying to rip them off
Went to Pamps Feb half term, had a great time, loads of snow, prices in places were a rip off, but other places were cheap as chips. If you pay £4-5 for a chocky bar you must be either starving or stupid, either way it serves yourself right. If the Bulgarians can get away with it then why shouldn't they try, I know I would! Just use a bit of common sense.
Its similar to going to a bar be it a hotel/pub/resteraunt and then ordering Imported beers that your used to if you do so yes (just like Spain Greece Turkey France etc) it will be very expensive and possibly more than the UK. Now common sense says you eat & drink the local foods/drinks they are dirt cheap.
If I can have near on 11 pints for £5 and your paying £4 for 1 choccie bar there is something ammis. Did he give you the incorrect change? If you knew the price was so high why did you ...

If you knew the price was so high why did you buy said £4 choccie bar? You must have been passing out with hunger to pay such an amount. Remember the other poster who stated chips pizza & a drink for £9 - make your own judgement on if thats price of not and for 45% of that cost you got 1 choccie bar in the same resort...
Sorry but I have no time for naivety/stupidity. What would you have done if you had say 5 kids with you yours + thei mates and they all want a choccie bar - shop owner "oh that will be £20 sir" would you pay up or walk away?
Also as a lift pass + ski gear + 4 hrs a day tuition for 6 days costs £120 then only taking the ski instructors fee thats £5/hr now come off it do you seriously think a local will pay 1hr 20 mins work for 1 choccie bar (tak & Ni deductions) I seriously doubt it.
