Give you an example........
We got a taxi to Borovets from Samokov which is roughly 10km........on a meter it cost us 6.00 leva. Without a meter, they charge 10.00 leva. That was last year and we normally use the bus for 1.50 leva, but it was late and there were no buses runing. In Sofia we can go from the centre to the outer suberbs for 3.00 leva. But I have to admit, that is with our accountant who is just under 7 ft tall!.
Taxi fares have all gone up this yr (officially) to approx .60 ...

When I first met him (a few years ago) I pulled up outside his place and he was (I think) cleaning his cab - not the Jag he has now, but a Mondeo I think. I said hello and then admired a very nice Rolls Royce that was parked nearby. I said to Dan, "Nice Roller, who's is that? Anyone you know?" Dan said "Oh, that's mine too!"
Wouldnt it be best to sort the price out before you get in the cab, then theirs no shock? I do that in every country now as Ive benn ripped off before and its weird how the price drops when you go to another taxi!
I mentioned to my rep about the cost of the taxies in Pamps last year and she told me that there is a problem with the meters are often tampered with. Now im not saying its true but i wouldnt be surprised if it was... thinking of becoming a pamps driver myself!...
Last year in Pamp the bus was so crowded we asked a taxi driver how much to get to the ski school, can't remember in levs but we worked it out at £5 at the time, that was from the perelik pick up. In New York however the cheeky tw*t was going to cahrge us the meter plus $10, I said to the others we were with that was fair enough he had to pay the toll. All of a sudden it was the meter plus $20 (we had only gone 2 blocks) I told him to stop we were getting out as by the time we got there it ...

Now that's how to rip of tourists, also had one in LA who forgot to switch the meter on and over charged us, still ended up paying more than previous after arguing.
