Me and my mate are thinking of getting some walkie talkies for our ski adventure to pamps in feb, does anyone else use them ? are they really worth it ? do you get the range and reception up a mountain ? and what are the best ones ? and where are the better one's available from ? your thoughts please my fellow ski-ers Very Happy

re: WALKIE TALKIES GOOD OR BAD

we used them in Andorra years ago when half of our party were too lazy to get up early but we wanted to meet up for early morning beers, they worked fine when you were in the same vally. as pamps is only one hill, they should work fine there. the ones they had were about £100 for the pair
Fisher price ones may work but you will look like a tit!

Yeah we take them every year to Pamps, just need to ensure you take enough batteries, as the eat them like. Also, you can sometimes catch some randoms taking on your line too, as a lot of people take them, so it's always fun pretending to be someone else, and sending there party to the wrong place!!!!!! obviously depending on who they are etc.. Not funny with the little kids... but adults is great, then you go wait for them in the spot you have told em to go and just sit and laugh when they ...

wouldn't dare go without them, just for the comedy value, and also if you staying in separate rooms you can talk to each other without having to get out of your bed!! what more could you want... genius.. happy holidays. Booze

re: WALKIE TALKIES GOOD OR BAD

Hiya, we took walkie talkies last yr too, and definately getting more for this yr. found the range wasn't great, but it was ace for arranging those cheeky hot chocolates, or asking how much beer to buy to take back to thte room!

We have some, too. You can get rechargeable ones that sit in a docking station overnight, so you don't need to keep buying batteries. The sort you get in Argos operate on several fixed channels, so you can arrange to switch over to a quiet channel once you've made contact.

Bear in mind that they only operate on 'line of sight'. That means there cant be any mountains between you.

Only one person can transmit at one time on each channel, so it's polite to keep your chatter to a minimum. ...

(But no one pays any attention to this, so inevitably you'll end up listening to continuous stream screaming of OMG-this-is-so-cool-I-cant-believe-the-snow-is-so-white-my-pants-are-falling-down-I-saw-this-guy/gal-and-s/he-was-so-gorgeous-and-on-and-on-and-on, so you wont get a word in when you've got much more important things to talk about, like when's the beer stop! >sigh< )

LEE, just checked out the ones in Argos, they look pretty good, not a bad price either, pop em into a travel adaptor in the hotel room to charge overnight, happy days.

re: WALKIE TALKIES GOOD OR BAD

never used walkie talkies but we take old unlocked phones, buy local sim cards, and text each other. allways works well and the sim cards are cheap as chips. Hows that for an alternative. Very Happy
