I'm in Portsmouth too and read the heartbreaking post from Amanda on this site earlier today. We are going to Borovets on Saturday 16th February and after reading the post was going to bring a couple of old ski jackets that my children have grown out of to donate - it doesn't seem much in the grand scheme of things, but every little helps. I notice that the Hotel Amanda mentioned is in Pamporovo. Does anyone know of anywhere in Borovets I could donate these things to?

Hi
I'm in Portsmouth too and read the heartbreaking post from Amanda on this site earlier today. Also, my mum has a friend who does quite alot of collecting and delivering of clothes and bits and bobs for children in Bosnia. I could talk to her about this, maybe if she cannot help she may have some contacts.
This probably won't help much, but many years ago someone I knew in Worcester got very anxious about the plight of children in terrible orphanages in Albania. She managed to get a local haulier interested who donated a truck to take all the stuff collected to Albania.
So does anyone have any contacts with haulage contractors?
Another thought - a lot of clothing shops (River Island, Oasis, etc) stock stuff made in Romania, and have lorries going there on a regular basis. Are there any ...

Another thought - a lot of clothing shops (River Island, Oasis, etc) stock stuff made in Romania, and have lorries going there on a regular basis. Are there any shops that have their stock made in Bulgaria because if so the lorries are travelling empty one way and could take our donations to Bulgaria either on the way out or the return trip.
Carole, I was a milkman in Aldwick, Pagham, Nyetimber area. Somewhere I have read about the haulage company "Willi Betz" (German) has moved 5,000 shoeboxes (from appeal) in the north of England free of charge to Bulgaria. F.V.
Hi Borogirl,
the 1st container of aid that I sent to the orphanage's was sent by a company Bulkan and black sea shiping.
this cost of £1650 given by the company that I worked for at that time. This was a door to door service, and with a load time of 3 hours in the U.K.
it took about 10 weeks to get there, but worth it as the shipping company will do all the customs forms for you.

By the way the forms are a mine field if you do them. your container can and will spend MONTHS on the docks in Bulgaria if the forms are incorect.
The 2nd container I sent by the same company and got a bit of discount, this one cost £1200 which I payed myself as I could not get the costs payed by donations.
In total I sent about £200,000 to the orphanages and schools in the area of Chepelare.
If you want to send a container to Bulgaria please get a shipping company to do it, do not just get a back load on a truck, You may not see the goods again.
If you want any info on this please ask. The company that I used are very good.
I hope this helps,
Andy
did not send any money in cash.
It was all donated by company's in Swindon. All new clothing. The 2 containers was full of new clothing donated by a very kind company, matalan.
Pete has a copy of the dvd of the 1st container. I had to do a dvd to show that all the items went to Bulgaria.
A full list of every item that I sent is in the town hall in Chepelare.
The items went to 10 orphanages and about 15 schools from Chepelare to smolyan.

Hi Borogirl, I know someone who approached Liverpool FC to see if they had any footie kit for a group of kids that played footie in the maldives, they ended up collecting two huge bags of old training kit, what made it even better was the initials of the various team members were still on the shirts.
Might be an idea but what about approaching the footie clubs.
