What Length Of Ski`s?

About to go on my 2nd ski holiday in Bulgaria. I have bought a pair of boots and have managed to get my hands on a 2nd hand pair of 175 carvers from a mate. A couple of my mates have bought 155 skis so they can turn quicker etc. Ive seen a wee diddy pair of skis for less than £50 (i think their called blades). Am i better to keep learning on the longer skis or would i improve quicker with shorter ones?

re: What Length Of Ski`s?

i think you'll learn more on skis. A couple who was in our ski group last year which was a group for 3 week skiers went out and bought blades and they struggled using them....but it was funny to watch..

re: What Length Of Ski`s?

You should learn on longer skis as you'll gt the technique before you go for speed. I've hired a pair for this year rather than buy to see how I get on.

re: What Length Of Ski`s?

The learning curves on "Blades" or ski boards is far quicker, and you will find that you can ski harder runs sooner than you would be doing on full length skis.

At the end of the day, it is down to personal preference which type of ski you go for. I have been skiing for over 18 years, and have skiid on old non carving skis, big mountain carvers, and the newer freestyle twin tip carvers. I also ski on Salomon SB10 Blades (99 cm long). I have been skiing for over 18 years, and have skiid on old non carving skis, big mountain carvers, and the newer freestyle twin tip carvers. I also ski on Salomon SB10 Blades (99 cm long). For the last 2 years I have taken only the Blades to Borovetts, and have not regretted this - they are easier to carry, and there are no runs that I cannot do just as quick or quicker on the Blades.

They are great fun, and if in doubt you should try them - there are generally 2 lengths available now - 90cm and 99cm. I like the longer length, as they are a little better in soft snow, and more stable at speed. Do note - the manufacturers state that people under 1.5m tall should not use them though.

Give them a try - you will not regret it

As an afterthought, have a look at this link - it will give you some background on Blades or Ski Boards. The beginners info is quite good...

I'm going to be there the same week... If you want some pointers for Blades / Ski Boards, I would happily give some.

I'm staying in the Rila with a small group
