re: What happened?

Yes - most of them get free food / drinks if they take classes, but it's not everywhere.

Bobby is lucky that he works for a smaller school and can go anywhere he wants without risking losing his job...unfortunately that is not the case for the 2 larger ski schools - the instructor doesn't have a choice as their are deals set up by their bosses / the restaurants. BUT, if people aren't happy with the food, they simply need to tell their instructor they want to eat somewhere else and then ...

re: What happened?

Does it really matter!.... Everyone loves perks of the job, normally makes up for the pay... Never been to BG before, this will be my first time, but when i have been in ski school in the past you normally only stop for a drink and a small snack ... Tend to then meet up with my family and friends for lunch and all go off skiing together in the afternoon...

re: What happened?

Suziblue,

Think you will find things a little different in Bulgaria. I've only skied in Boro in Bulgaria so not sure if the other resorts are the same, but this is where the value for money comes from!

All my ski lessons in the past have started about 9.30/ 10 o'clock, break for lunch about 1.00 then lessons till about 3.30. This is also the same for kids ski school too!

Every where else I've been to you only get lessons in the morning, this is where you get great value for money ...

Personally I think thats why the social side of skiing in Borovets is so good!

re: What happened?

I was a holiday rep for a UK company in Greece and we always look tourists to places we got free drinks/meals - nothing new there! It's a perk of the job of dealing with holiday makers mostly complaints/crap! And believe me - jobs which involve holiday makers are REALLY difficult!

re: What happened?

Thats the trouble with holiday based jobs, the holidaymakers Confused bloody reps, easy life, commission commission commission hehehehehe......
When i was an instructor for a National ski school many years ago we got no perks at all, made even more difficult by the fact that we were only ever given beginners groups (we were English, so obviously could not ski) and were obligated to visit the bars and restaurants ajacent to the nursury slopes who had already negotiated with the school ...

Things changed though when i left to work for an English tour company as a guide, apart from my free apartment, commission from bars/restaurants where i took my groups, commission from sales of activities, ski-wear allowance and ski/boot allowance... and almost a living wage Razz meaning i no longer had to go apartment cleaning, washing up, transfers, cottaging (though i normally ended up paying for the latter) to try to make ends meet as an instructor...
And the reps did better than me financially, if they could get up Wink
