"...would a week out of school the week before or after the school holiday make much differance to their education whilst still so young, its not like they are taking their GCSE's right now, is it ?"

No, it may not make much difference to their education but what about their teachers, mate? There is nothing worse for a teacher than having to help chidren who have been absent catch up with the rest of the class. Neither is it fair on the rest of the class who are slowed down by the kids ...

No, it may not make much difference to their education but what about their teachers, mate? There is nothing worse for a teacher than having to help chidren who have been absent catch up with the rest of the class. Neither is it fair on the rest of the class who are slowed down by the kids of some selfish parents who do not give a damn about anyone else but themselves. When there is a problem afterwards, blame the teachers, right? It is never parents' fault but always teachers' fault!

And by the way, the correct spelling is"difference" and not "differance". It looks like one's attitude to education does make a difference...

Calm down lad I'm sure he was only putting forward some suggestions. Speaking as a parent I've had to take my son out of school for a week the last couple of years due to my husband working shifts, and before you say it no he can't swap them, he doesn't get holidays as its factored in to the 5 week shift pattern which we get for the whole year. The school always look at the childs attendance and their marks and so far we've had no problem and I'm lucky in saying that my son gets very good marks and always catches up with his work. I would only ever take my son out for maximum 1 week, so I think thats reasonable compared to those who take them out for 2 weeks year in year out, of whom I know there is plenty. To our family we enjoy the skiing holidays more than summer holidays so why should we be penalised for a stupid holiday system (roll on 4 terms spread out with no 6 weeks in the summer).

Well now I'll get off my high horse. Enjoy your skiing wherever you go Jon.

Very Happy

The problem with our society is that everyone has become very selfish and is ready to blame someone else for their own failures (with all due respect and compassion for happened to them, the latest example being Madeleine's parents who valued £30 or whatever it would have cost them to have a childminder with their children while they were having dinner more than they valued the life of their child).

As it always happens, it is never parents but teachers who are responsible for the kids' horrible behaviour and on top of it they are not given a chance to protect themselves. As soon as they try to instill some discipline, the parents come down on them as tonne of bricks screaming abuse. Or winge about the right to have holidays. No wonder they are so demotivated - who would not be in their place?

If you do not have money for a holiday in half-term, then do not go but do not heap all that extra work on the teachers... It is immoral!

whats wrong with you all it was only a suggestion, about taking kids out of school.as for teachers getting the kids to catch up i know from experiance that this dosent happen.both my girls go to very high achieving schools and if you speak to the teachers they agree that a week somewhere is not going to harm them.

go to the hotel Rila in Borovets - everything is right outside the hotel. There is a ski kindergarten with a new area fenced off for the little ones, there was a couple in my ski group last year who had a four year old who went there and she loved it, in the evenings the kids can play and toboggan and bum board right ouside the hotel while you join in or watch from the bar, the hotel food is fine with loads of choice, its not the cheapest hotel, but is in the best location, , right next to ...

You wouldn't be a teacher by any chance are you?

Lets try and stick to skiing shall we, not start a whole new world of politics. I'm sure there's a board for that somewhere else.

To all you other guys, thanks for your time , advice and goodwill, you really have helped the five of us on our wish to ski (our one holiday per year John) next half term as you have appreciated that two wages find it difficult to pay for FIVE holidays!
Cheers
Jon

I have been to all 3 resorts and can honestly say Bansko is by far the best in all aspects, (apart from the transfer time from the airport).
After going to Bansko, I would never again go to any of the other resorts in Bulgaria. For this reason I invested in Bansko and have one of the top five 2 bed apartments in Bansko if you are interested Jon.
