After visiting Pamporovo this winter (and thoroughly enjoying it, apart from the rapidly decreasing snow levels) I was thinking of returning to bulgaria next year. I've read many varying reports on each resort, but was really after the pro-s and con's of Borovets & Bansko.
Are you taking children and what level of skier are you
They say that Bansko is better for boarders and Borovets is better for families and skiers.
I personally like Borovets as everything is based around the lifts so is easier for children and to meet up as a family, especially if you have walkie talkies. I also like the fact that you can easily get away from the resort and eat and drink at very good prices in nearby villages ...
This could set the cat amongst the pidgeons

Borovets is very different from Pamps and has a better snow record and is more challenging. The scenery is more dramatic but the resort is more built up and buzzes.
This is MY opinion and I am sure I will be challenged
We have both Skiers and Boarders in the party, all of which are adults. Next year the levels will range fom beginners thru to advanced so a good all round resort would be nice. I really liked pamporovo, but we don't want to play boulder slalom again .
There were a couple of nasty injuries on the mountain as the snow melted away.

Borovets would suit all levels. My family range from advanced down to me (a recreational/social skier of perfect conditions ). They still enjoy the runs and if they want something new, go off piste with a local guide.
There are boarders at both resorts. Nightlife is plentiful in both resorts. Transfer is shorter from Sofia to Borovets.
I have never been to Bansko or Pamps but have been to Boro. If the whole ski area is open and all the runs from the top station down to the resort are open i would say Boro. If however, the ski area outside of the rila is not open or in bad nick the top area serviced by the gondola is only suited to skiers. This area is only serviced by button lifts and they are extremely long and steep (i have heard they are installing one chair lift to replace one of the three surface lifts), but if this ...

I can't comment on Bansko i'm afraid but that would be my view of Boro. If it has good snow and whole ski area is open i would choose there. If not, then i would go for Bansko rom what i have heard
They are replacing the first drag lift with a chair lift this summer. The power cables etc are already in place. This will improve things for boarders and beginners.
I personally prefer the lower slopes, although the views are spectacular on the top. I'm alright once I get down from the top part of the gondola. The travellator back up is great, although, as Truman says, if there is good snow cover, most ski back down and there's room and challenges for all.
Not the first drag - the second one up top will be a quad chair , Borogirl.
One very small drop in the ocean though.
as for skiing right down to base, only possible if you have done your prayers before ur hols, gone to church regularly and simply lucky with the weather or have hired skis from shops not with your own.
Not sure on the 'family friendly bit' for all of the BG resorts though.
If you havent been elsewhere and nothing to compare it with then you will be OK dont worry.

But if I still have to grade BG resorts I will go like this:
Boro
Pamp,Bansko or vise versa for the latter two.
And this when the snow is on all of the runs and taking into account distances ,challenges, crowds, views at base, snow reliability etc.Distortions in all directions when the snow not good.
