Pamporovo best for beginners I would say - pretty and tree-lined runs, easy progression. Normally I would say that it would be a risk at the end of March though given it's lack of height, but with the amount of snow this year it should be fine.
Thanks all for the updates. It looks like a close call between pamps and vets with the shorter transfer and higher altitude of vets possibly shading it. Pamps does seem like its a bit more attractive though? I was originally considering Eagles Nest appts in Bansko - any recommnedations for apartments in the other resorts?
Seeing as you are all so helpfull a couple of other questions if i may!
Are helmets becoming the norm now - seems like a simple precaution especially as we are newbies?
Goggles are a must i guess if its bright - toward the end of March what colour lenses are best suited (grey?)
I have some friends in the nearby town of samokov who rent out some apartments and drive you into borovets daily if your interested they are called gerry & sandra on this forum or contact me. Hi Nick,
I have some friends in the nearby town of samokov who rent out some apartments and drive you into borovets daily if your interested they are called gerry & sandra on this forum or contact me. Otherwise i can recommend the flora apartments which have a great central location to everywhere in borovets. Regarding helmets like pete says its a good idea to get into the habit from the start by wearing one as beginners your likely to spend some time on the floor from falling and thats when your more vunerable to somebody hitting you from behind. Goggles or sunglasses very effective but i use orange tints in my goggles for sunny days.
I've never worn a helmet in the past but now think I was unneccesarily reckless! I just bought a Nevica one for £15 down from £79.99 from Sports Direct if that's any help - bargain!
Thanks all - really looking forward to trip - im sure i will find something. As for helmets, im glad to hear its getting more normal - by all accounts i will spend most of my time on the floor trying to get of the chair lifts - something to do with having to keep one foot in your binding and skate away! They dont teach you that at the Snowdome - Gulp!!
If you can put up with longer transfer and you are more or less total beginner , Pamporovo is your best bet.
If you don't mind longer queues above average transfer and walks after/ before and crowded pistes Bansko is for you.
If you want convenience minimal walking and probably maximum££ time on the slopes plus night time if you got extra energy and shortest transfers of them all three than Borovets is the The Best.
If you decide to go to Pamps, you have a choice between ski in-skin out places like the Castle, Grand Monstery, Markony and then use taxi's to go out in the evening. Alternatively you can stay in the town centre and use the buses to get to the slopes. All the hotels have transport of some description. Orlovetz is lovely, Perelik and Mourgavetz are also central and good value for money.
Obviously I would personally recommend Snezhanka and can provide quotes if you click on my name and drop ...
